I've done this picture on Paint.NET and put it into scratch, i'd spent ages on it, but when it goes onto scratch it ruins the quality, is there a way of stopping it? Any advice will be appreciated

I dont really think so..maybe you can look at the options of the image by right clicking the image

What file format did you save it in?

what you should do is export a background from the stage, open it in Paint.NET and then delete it. then just work on that page.
this way it stays the same size as it would be in your scratch project and not have to resize.
also make sure you save in .png for best quality.

Firstly make sure it is not over 360*480 otherwise it will be scaled down and lose qaulity.
Secondly scratch can not handle semi-transparent things so either make them completely transparent or completely solid.
