yeah, i agree, i wish there was more original stuff on it, back in the old days *looks off into the distance* like my game face, completly original, but i made that a while ago...

For the people saying that the majority of Scratch users are about 8 to 10 - look here. I'd say that the average is more of 13.

While the front page is not how I like it - I don't bother to view it except for Featured, Curated and Design Studio - I do realize that the other projects that get front paged (ie. Top Viewed, Loved) get there because enough users want to view the project or put a love-it. Consider the fact that your opinion of a bad front page may not be the largest one.
People say that they are 13 because they think its a requirement (Like my brother...)
But I see your point.

Well, in my opinion, Scratch not only introduces you to projects and galleries that the Scratch Team likes, but it also gives you a look at what Scratchers like these days!

How in the world does BYOB fit into this?
Scratch is designed so that it can be introduced to children of young ages. As stated on the Lifelong Kindergarten page:
Scratch is a graphical programming environment that makes it easier for kids (ages 8 and up) to create their own interactive stories, games, animations, and simulations -- and share their creations with one another online.

Ten year olds aren't that bad.
Thank you

A project is a project, no matter how stupid.
You're complaining about complainers?

that's really the only way nowadays
spam your way to the front page, then keep a constant stream of mediocre/bad projects to retain fame
once you've done that congrats now you have both an overwhelming fanbase and a selection of people who hate you because they can do better
but bro
i make plenty of bad projects
and im never on the front page
i see a flaw in your plan

There should be a two week block from the front page after a persons project has been on there for at least several hours (6?).
More variety.

I usually find that the an unusual variety of people do hit the Top Loved/Viewed list, but not the top three slots. Maybe, instead of doing the top three all the time, I would like to see the front page pick, at random, three from the top ten list every time the page is refreshed.

That's an excellent idea that would go a long way towards providing some fresh faces on the front page. I'm pretty sure it's been put forward a couple of times by others as well, in various forms. I'll pass this topic along to the rest of the team in case they missed it.
In the meantime - this isn't the first discussion these forums have seen about how some categories of the front-page lack variety. The Remixing, Loving and Viewing areas tend to reflect whatever popular fad is currently sweeping through Scratch. There have been times when it was dominated by other types of projects such as Dress-up games and Hamster RPG projects.
If you folks get organized and make a push for it, you can put anybody you want on there - I've seen it done! Of course, if the project has broad appeal, it's more likely to stay there for a while. And if there are followup projects already on hand, that helps with lasting name recognition. So go have some fun and let's see you put somebody new up there

They are working on the next version of scratch and don't have time to do a website makeover right now.

Lazy, eh?!
That's one word I would definitely not use to describe the Scratch Team!
Scratchers don't get to see a lot of the stuff we're often doing behind the scenes... so it's understandable that you'd think we were just lazing around, sitting on our porches drinking iced tea all day, can't be bothered to write in the forums, or fix bugs....
But nothing could be farther from the truth!

Its just that this whole front page thing is messed up!
Maybe you get a PHP scripter *cough*TheSuccesor*cough* to make it so that you can only be there once a MONTH?

It's funny, we were just talking about some of these same issues this weekend.
By the way, SCMB1 has made a great suggestion on one way to address the problem of lack of diversity on the front page that would be relatively easy to implement. If you haven't already voted for it, you might consider it:

At least, the Featured section of Scratch brings a variety of new faces onto front page; look at that at the bright side at least.

If you think that it's a great suggestion, you should implement it - it already has 65 votes anyway
Keep voting people!!!
