Yeah, not really. I've found a few, but haven't played in a while so I haven't found any in a while.
I played on Minecraft Australia a while ago before the map was reset for an update, mining around pools of lava and found over 30 diamonds. It kept saying I found x diamonds in the chat and people thought I was using an X-ray mod. Luckily the admin that was online knew I wasn't cheating. xD

I don't always use the x-ray mod, but when I do, nobody notices...

I done that on a server once, but I used Optifine and a HD texture pack, so I could switch between the default texture and xray in-game. I only done that when I was really desperate for diamond though.

It's fun to use X-Ray on a really mean server where everyone's out to PvP you to death. You can get them back, kinda

Yeah, I guess diamonds would be useful in that case.

Before I waste a bunch of iron making tools:
How practical is a 50x50 Quarry?
Would a strip mine be better? I mean, I know they're easier, but I'd like to build my home underground. A strip mine doesn't really do much for house building.
I have about four stacks of iron ingots, and more to smelt, so it isn't REALLY a problem, it's just that I'm currently far above sea level in my mountain house.

A quarry that big would be ok. Maybe the space could be used for a really big house with farms and stuff. If you're making a quarry that big, I hope your using Buildcraft.

nope sorry
Nununu That mean's I'll have to make a mine far from my house.
Have you found a village? Because I found one and I have 6 emeralds now.

The only mods I have are:
Optifine
XRay (for redstone; only shows dust, torches, repeaters, pistons, etc.)
InventoryTweaks (I have OCD, this helps)
UsefulSeeds (roasted pumpkin seeds!)
I don't like make-a-machine-to-do-it-for-you mods. I take pride in my work, not pride in a machine it took ten minutes to gather the materials to make. Plus, Forge likes to crash my game. Maybe I'll reload my .jar and add the FTB modpack. That looks like fun.
UPDATE:
I've decided on a 15x15 Quarry, with a branch mine on all of the walls, on many levels. Then I can destroy the walls of the tunnels and have a huge area to build in.
Probably will go unfinished, but w/e. It's something to do.

Actually, it takes something like 12 diamonds, 16 gold and I think it is 28 iron, which took me a few days to get enough diamonds in FTB. Also, I find InventoryTweaks really useful too.

I usually strip mine at y = 10 with one wide, two high shafts every third or forth block along. y= 10 is supposed to be a very good level for diamond and at one point I had about 5 stacks from it, no mods

There's a language file in the .jar. You'll have to go find it (it should be pretty easy).

EN_FL started! The trouble is that I have to manually select the language in the options.txt. Any help with getting it to display in the language menu in MC?

MCEdit isn't a mod.
It can't mess with world files.
You're fine.

Are you joking?
The sole purpose of MCEdit is to edit world files, it's safe but if you do anything wrong you'll mess it up.
