Should I get Adobe Fireworks? It looks really cool, but I'm afraid it might be too hard for me.

Lol I thought it was going to be about actual fireworks and expected everyone to be like "lolno its dangerus"
But if you're willing to learn, go for it I guess.
I don't know what exactly is Fireworks good for though, so I don't know any alternatives

I've owned Adobe Fireworks for two years and I've never found much use for it. I'd say go for Photoshop or Illustrator instead!
How easy to use is it?

Well, I've tried Photoshop and Fireworks before. In my opinion, the Fireworks interface looks friendlier than Photoshop.
In reality, though, I don't really recommend either of them only because they're kind of pricey and there are other free image editors out that which do similar things. I ended up sticking with GIMP because GIMP is free and open-source. I never tried this, but paint.NET is also free and, from the images, it's interface looks relatively simple to understand. Maybe you'll want to try free downloads before deciding to try something pricey like Fireworks or Photoshop.

Considering that fireworks is like 300 dollars I would say no.
Fireworks isn't even approiate for what you would use it for, which would probally be animation graphics or title screens. Fireworks is designed to make website graphics which is not what you are going to do. Most of fireworks design features are included with all adobe graphics programms (illustrator, flash, photoshop) so since you don't need website tools fireworks should be the last thing on your list to get.
Good free alternatives for your purposes would be inkscape and gimp.

Yeah, I just looked a little closer and found that out xD.
Is Illustrator worth it, though? Gimp is slow and a bit hard to use on my computer because it isn't running as a native app.

Fireworks is about the cheapest adobe program because it has less functions than most other adobe software. All Adobe software is worth it if you are a professional but for hobbiests, its not really worth it. All Adobe programs have a 30-day free trial tho so you can try anything you want to check it out.
Inkscape is not bad for macs, you can try that.
PS: Don't use a program because another Scratch user does (Rhy). Generally the tools reccomended by industry professionals for specific functions are the best.

Actually, I had just heard about it from another scratcher. They had used it for some graphics, so I automagically assumed that it was a graphics program xD.
I'm trying to figure out what tools industry professionals actually recommend. I was going to try for the Adobe web design suite because it comes with all the graphics programs I want [PhotoShop Extended, Illustrator), plus Flash development tools (I've wanted to get into Flash for a while) and general web design software (I've had a few good ideas for websites, just no ways to execute them because I only know HTML).

Getting the free trials of the Adobe programs would probally be a good just to try them. I know some schools have highschool courses that teach how to use these programs so you may want to look into that.
Adobe is pretty much the standard for web design tools, and graphic design, but the prices are really high (like 400$ on average).

I know they're high, but I'd be getting the student discount, meaning they're much less and also my dad said he'd match whatever money I have if I want to buy PhotoShop/Creative Premium/Illustrator/CS5 something or other.

Well, in any case you should download the trial versions off the Adobe website.
Let me break down their graphics programs main use:
photoshop - mainly for editing existing photos and creating neat effects
fireworks - making images for websites and creating mock websites
illustrator - making drawing and web design
flash - making drawing and animations/interactive programs
Try each one and get the one you like. Personally my fave is Flash and I use it for most of my art stuff.
