(Parts of these tutorials assume you are using a Mac and that you understand Canadian/British spelling. I can't remember how you toggle through objects using Windows or Linux...I use the right click button.)
For this tutorial you will be quickly making funny shaped blocks which will be fully functional.
1. Press ⇧ on the R in SCRATCH, usually top left of your client.
2. Turn fill screen on.
3. Take out your blocks that you which to modify.
4. Right-click on the text in your block many times, until it says something like(or it should be) "String", as in/to say a string or a line of text.
5. You should now see a bunch of low-detail, colourful circles holding icons boxing your "String". Click on the one which appears to be a solid red colour with the icon being a window I suppose, but you could think of it as being a calendar with no vertical lines. If you have problems knowing which one it is, use the process of elimination or go try some reCAPTCHAs.
6. Click "set font".
7. Click a font.
8. Choose a size. Make it big and the block will look funny or however you like.
9. Repeat to experiment and have fun!

There are several problems...
1. ↑ Look at WeirdF's post. ↑
2. You "turn full screen off", not "on".
4. You "middle-click", not "right-click".
5. That icon means "Menu", not "window".
