Help create a directory of Scratch groups!

Do you know anything about a group of Scratchers collaborating to do something together? For example collabs trying to create Scratch projects, or groups of people using Scratch or the website to play/build RPGs, or people creating characters, or monitoring the community? or something else?

Please submit the group info to http://scratch.mit.edu/groups/ and it will be included in the directory of Scratch groups.

We will try to periodically publish the results here.

Please help create this directory by entering information about groups even if you don't belong to them.

This is inspired by Kileymeister's forum thread.

Re: Help create a directory of Scratch groups!

Wow. This a big step in supporting collaborations. I'm glad to see Scratch embrace it even more. I think a lot of people will like this new directory.

Good idea!  smile

I submitted something about the Scratch Wiki, but I'm not sure whether it counts...  hmm

Re: Help create a directory of Scratch groups!

Cool idea!

This is just an example, but it's not *really* a Scratch group so I'm not going to add it.

Name of the group: Scratch Wiki Admins

Link(s) to the company gallery(ies) or page(s):
http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/index.php?t … p;limit=50

Members: Lucario621, WeirdF, Jonathanpb, Chrischb, andresmh, JSO

Goal of the group: To improve the Scratch Wiki, and making it as most of a useful source of information as possible. This includes keeping it clean, keeping the site organized easily navigable, and keeping information accurate; updated with the latest Scratch news.

How is the group organized? Decisions are made on our community portal (http://wiki.scratch.mit.edu/wiki/Scratc … ity_Portal) together with all of the members of the Scratch Wiki community. We make decisions by consensus, so not by voting but by discussing and seeing each other's point of views, and reaching a point which we can agree upon, or in rarer cases a point that the wiki admins/bureaucrats has decided upon.

As for rules, we are supposed to be respectful to each other, and not make fun of anybody's ideas. And of course, we have to use kind language.

Extra info: We are still active, and are always working to improve the Scratch Wiki. Also, many of us talk with each other sometimes on various decisions using Skype. However we do try to keep most of the discussion on the wiki to keep it public and open.

I hope this helps anyone who might want to submit a Scratch Group  smile .

EDIT: Just read WeirdF's post. I supposed he submitted something about the Scratch Wiki - I guess I'll do it too  tongue .

A quick question: will other users be able to edit somebody else's group info thing?

That's a good idea. We'll figure out a way to do that in the future.

Do not worry about entering the info multiple times, I'll try to merge the duplicate entries when.

Because they might not have all the correct info. Also, can you make an info page thing about a group you aren't in? (I don't plan on, but I was just wondering)

Re: Help create a directory of Scratch groups!

That page is so simple... it doesn't even have a title!  tongue

By the way, I've found a mistake in the source of that page.

Code:

<center><iframe src="https://spreadsheets.google.com/embeddedform?formkey=dGlCZ3lYdThWVWVycVFDd0RqSFVjdmc6MQ" width="760" height="803" frameborder="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0">Loading...</iframe></centers>

It's </center>, not </centers>.

Off-topic: It's Google Docs!  big_smile

Hey Lucario, you forgot to mention account approval  tongue

Aw... WeirdF and Lucario already submitted wiki stuff, and Chris will do Flag RPG... what should I do?  tongue  I'd do Prism, but it's sort of dead... maybe if it gets revived I could submit something  wink

Re: Help create a directory of Scratch groups!

Cool!

So, this will be a manually edited list by the scratch team?

(edited)

Have you all considered a system for allowing groups to form and manage themselves like Organic Groups?
I think, scratchr's private galleries could almost do it.

(I am hoping that Group FavTags (or something better) can move forward faster with your help; I'm slow & inexperienced with this type of thing.)

Does the curator group count?
You know, the people who've been curators?

That isn't really a group and there's a new curator every two weeks...  hmm

Yes! Please do! This will help get a more comprehensive list.

Also, the groups could be active or inactive (e.g. groups that were active in the past but are no longer active).

It will be manual first and then perhaps more user-generated.

I hope you continue working on the FavTags. We are always busy with things here but feel free to start working on prototypes of it and get input from the rest of the community. That's how a lot of different efforts have emerged (e.g. clutter, the Scratch wiki, etc).
