I'm about to face Morty at the Ecruteak City gym, and everything was going fine, I had a level 31 Mew with Psychic, that deals 90 DMG, and has a 100% chance of hitting. I had gotten this Mew from a WiFi event, and vigirously trained it until it was my most powerful Pokemon. One problem - now, Mew only listens to me 1/8 of the time! I need the badge from this gym so it'll (it's genderless) listen to me, but the only way I'll beat Morty is if I have my Mew! Help!

Use your other ones. This is why you never over-train one, you train them evenly.

Exactly. I learned my lesson about over-training just one and leave out all the rest of your Pokemon which will probably stay at Level 10.
Try to catch more Pokemon and train them to around the level your Mew is. Then use your Mew and all the other Pokemon to bring Morty down. That's how I beat him in Silver.

I DO have a level 25-ish Bayleef, but it's rubbish against Ghost types. I DO ALSO have a level 15-ish Ghastly, with Curse and Confuse Ray and a things.

Is that it? You have three? Anyways, train your others to around 29 or so, and you can win easy. If you don't have the patience (I know I wouldn't), settle for 20 or so.

Ah, same problem as me. Heres what I did and here are some tips:
Ghost types are weak against bug types, so search in grass for one, such as sunkern.
Your pokemon won't respond because you Wi-Fied it.
Get more pokemon YOURSELF
Train them all, but get different types.
Eevees are a great choice to help you because:
They will always listen to you due to their ability.
They evolve into every MAIN type.
THEY CAN PWN LUGIA AND HO-OH ANYDAY!
So thats it, there is no easy way out, train them!

Yeah, what the above people said will help.
I waited until I beat every gym leader to bring my strongest over. Then I pwn'ed the rest of the game.
Another thing you could do is breed a couple pkmn to your liking, then hatch them within SS. However, you still need to train them.

No, I have a few lame ones. I hava a Togepi at the day care right now... And that's about it. I wish I hadn't relied on Mew as much... Dang, I trained that thing from level 5...

I'd say have a useless normal type with you. When he uses gengar, send out the normal type to wipe his shadow ball out (Ghost doesn't hit normal). Then send out a pokemon with Payback, and then reverse his next attack with it. It will most likely wipe him out. The haunters are a piece of cake. Use a supereffective attack, and it won't take much to make them faint.
Hope this helps!

Payback... I think I have a TM sitting around with that in it. Thanks for the suggestion.

Hmm. Here's my lineup:
Rocky, LVL 17 Onix. Has Rock Tomb, Payback, Rock Smash, and Rock Throw
Chickie, LVL 24 Bayleaf. Has Tackle, Magical Leaf, Razor Leaf, and Bullet Seed
Mew, LVL 32 Mew. Has Psychic, Mega Punch, Cut, and Embargo. (Won't obey orders most of the time.)
Wendell, LVL 10 Sentret. Has Scratch, Foresight, Surf and Quick Attack.
Boo, LVL 19 Ghastly. Has Mean Look, Curse, Night Shade, and Confuse Ray.
Timmy, LVL 16 Togepi. Has Headbutt, Metronome, Sweet Kiss, and Yawn.
I'm having trouble even beating the mediums that are in the gym...

Methinks you're going to need to train your others a lot.

I always overtrain one (in my friend's game)
But then he always catches legendaries and also trades with his friends.

Send out that sentret of yours. As gengar attacks, use surf, although little damage will be done. After his shadowball is out of PP, send out Rocky. Use payback, that should take him out, if you are slow. For the ghastlys, use payback some more. If your onix is killed, send out Boo.
Before fighting, train all pokemon. He has all lvl. 20s.

Um what? Ghost types aren't weak against bug types... well bug is resistant to ghost, but bug isn't super effective against ghost.
And sunkern isn't a bug type T.T
Mew doesn't listen to him because it has a different trainer ID and it's over level 30, while he only has 3 badges.
Eevees? You only get one in the game before you can breed, and if main type you mean every type that was special in 3rd gen besides dragon, then yes. But Glaceon and Leafeon aren't even obtainable in HGSS.

Um, gengar has sucker punch. So that won't work. And gengar definitely is smart enough not to use shadow ball on sentret.
And he has like level 29s or something.

I just got a LVL 17 Dratini from the game room. I think it has Leer, and it for sure has Dragon Rage, Thunder Wave, or something, and some Tornado move. Will he help? He can 1-hit KO a lot of LVL 12-14 enemies with Dragon Rage, only one he had to do 2 hit, because of foresight.

It'd hold out, isn't it resistant to Ghost type moves?
I'm saying this all as a fairly new player, I've only played FireRed and original Red a bit.

Dragon rage does a mere 40 damage. As a dragon type, it has no advantage against Morty, so he isn't really a big deal, so it is your choice. All i can say, is just train your current pokemon.

Train your Gastly up to level 31 or something. Then start hypnosis-shadow balling everyone.
Also find a Pokemon with bite or something.
