I think it would be nice if the author of a topic would have administrative powers for it. For example, if someone was spamming your topic, you could delete your posts. They wouldn't have complete controls (they wouldn't be able to ban people, or sticky their topic, obviously) but they would be able to at least edit and delete posts, and close the topic. It is their discussion after all.
Pros:
It may lower spam,
The mod would have less to do,
If the mods miss something and the author catches it, they could fix it too.
Cons:
it may create more spam (People posting topics, then closing them instantly)
Compensations for cons:
Only allow closing after 5 or so replies.
What do you think?

If they edit topics some people might think the original poster said what the owner edited the post to say, and I know about the thing that says who edited it last, but what if someone didn't notice that?
But this is still a nice idea.
And maybe they should make it so there is a time limit on when you can lock the topic, example: You can only lock your topic if its been on the forums for less then 10 minutes.

It seems like a good idea, but I'm not sure anyone that makes a topic would be capable of properly moderating it. For example, some authors must just delete posts of people who disagree with them.

Yeah, I knew there were definite problems with it, but I kinda just came up with it on the spot.

Good idea, but I think it should be something like you can only close it after, say, 5 replies.

I never though of that xD

This is also one of the cons... I don't think there can be any solution to this.

This could be abused... you could edit people's posts to make them say things that they didn't say, or do things like making all posts agree with something. Really, you could just use the Report button and let a moderator deal with it.

It would be convenient, but my mind is overflowing with all the dangerous possibilities (such as editing people's posts to say other stuff, removing posts of those who disagree with you, and so on).

I'm feeling rather pretty uneasy about giving such administrative power to thread owners. If anything, I see this as giving moderator and Scratch Team more work, with issues about being unable to keep track of of deleted posts, to increased moderation for arguments over unwanted post edits.

Why would people need this power? I think it might be nice for thread owners be able to close their own topics, but if they wanted it closed, they could just report it, and one of the moderators/scratch team would close it. As for deleting/editing, it could annoy people to the point of flaming/trolling if people edit/delete their post just because they disagree with the poster. For example, if you were mad at me for disagreeing with you, (which I'm sure you're not ) you could edit this and have it be nothing, or just edit it to make it agree with you. I'm not sure this is such a good idea, sorry.
But I can see where you were going with it.

@Johnathanpb, cheddargirl, Chrisb and XplodingEggs,
Like I said, I knew there were some definite holes in the idea, and I wouldn't ever really want it implemented, but I did just want to see what other people thought, especially the mods. I'd say that if it was implemented, only the ability to close it should exist.
@johndo77,
I know that.
