Music making?

What do you use to create your music? I am also asking because I am looking into buying a higher level music creation program, one that uses a combo of midi and beat-boxing w/ the entire note scale (I'm trying to say something along the lines of Melodica or BeatMaker, both iPod apps)

EDIT: I'm using Windows only, so I need things that run on it. And they also need to exportable into an actual audio format (mp3, wav, others)

Re: Music making?

I used to have Finale Notepad, but the Bredolab infection forced me to wipe my computer clean. I now use something called MuseScore, which works just as well (both use and export to MIDI). The only thing is that they don't play to file and they don't include beatboxing in its soundbanks, so I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for.  hmm

That stinks. Isn't finale a fortune too?
I used it in music and it's awesome.

Earlier versions used to be free, but then Finale's creators started adding a price tag (except for their Notepad reader, which has no editing capabilities). I used to have one of those free versions before I lost it because of Bredolab. Notepad is the cheapest compared to other versions of Finale and MakeMusic software (some of which seem outrageously priced).

Re: Music making?

I saw that your all into creating music. Has anybody connected the midi output from Scratch to another midisynth than Windows/Mac. It would be lovely to send the midinotes to a host with VST-instruments. And then you could create music in real time... with a picoboard or WeDo... Suggestions?

Audacity. It's really good, and it's free so you don't have to empty out your wallet.

I dunno. Isn't that only for Mac? Or can you download it for Windows, too? Well, I don't know 'cuz I never checked for sure.

Re: Music making?

I use a KORG EMX-1 SD together with a MicroKORG. When I buy my new soundcard, Cubase 4 LE will be included which I will record and do some re-arranging with, plus some chord progression which the EMX can't handle too good.
The total price of my equipment is bigger than what a computer DAW costs but I don't like making everything on computers.
