Now there's no way of getting to the TBGs!!! I always used the link in "These forums have been moved to another website."

Sounds like a good idea!  Where do you think would be a good place to put a link to the TBG forums?  Maybe in Miscellaneous somewhere?

I liked having it there a little, I think there should be a link somewhere to them, maybe here?  smile

Well, it turns out there already is a link in Miscellaneous...that's why it seemed like a good idea.  Check it out http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic … 34#p256934

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

As a cursory solution for those who can not access the TBGs at the moment, try entering the Miscellaneous forum, and typing the letters "tbg" before the word "forums" in the url. Press enter, and you will be taken directly to the TBG site. Alternatively, you can just click this link.

IMO, TBG and I+M should be brought back, but don't feel as strongly about the others.

But it would be easier if there was a section for it. How about in the "Inspiration and more" section? Or it could have it's own section, right below the Inspiration and more section, but above the new forum users place.

I first noticed it was gone last week, I think, after my link to a topic in the archives stopped working.

Hmm... not sure what that was. I only just made the archives invisible this morning.

So have you guys been deleting topics then?

Nope - we haven't removed anything, just made it invisible.

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

Wow... the Scratch Forums look really small now.  tongue

I sort of liked keeping the archived forums... hiding them (I don't think you removed them, I bet you just made them invisible  tongue ) is sort of like erasing a bit of Scratch history.  hmm  And people might wonder what the Scratch Day forums and old TBG were... it might confuse some people. Oh, and the archived forums are nice to browse through for information - you could find things about previous Scratch Days, or look at the old TBGs.

EDIT:

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

I like this, except that it's bye-bye to a bunch of history - I took a look when writing some Scratch Wiki articles and my history of Scratch.  hmm  Maybe they could be hidden as it is now, except that there's a link to someplace you can view them?

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

Some pros and some cons as well...

Like many have said before me, there's a lot of history hidden from Scratchers. With Archives visible, you can gain inspiration and see what's been done before.

However, just like Operation: Cleanup in the TBG forums, some people want to forget the old and come in with the new. Still others feel that having their Scratch history visible to anyone on the web is quite unnerving.

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

Contrary to popular believe it seems, new users aren't as dumb as you people think. I have no trouble understanding why the archives couldn't be posted in before. However I don't see why everyone is supporting this idea. I mean, it wouldn't affect the lag on the site by much if anything at all. What really causes forum lag is searches.  Anyways, the forum's haven't changed for about 9 months now (as I've said before, I was lurking around before I joined ) so how did it recently get 'cluttered'? More importantly, this is scratch history that's being hidden. I go through interesting threads now and again and I was even planning to make a game based on a few of the threads. I would link to them but I can't see anything anymore. Anyway, the least that could be done is to bring back the closed TBG, the Inspiration and More forum and maybe the 2008 scratch day forum. Or at least let me get html copies of the topics which I want to make games of.

It's helpful for New Scratchers, who could get confused about why they can't post in the archived forums. It was fun to read through the old threads, but things have got to change sometime, I guess.  hmm

That was part of the reason it was removed. It cluttered up the forums with ones that couldn't even be posted in, confused new Scratchers as to why they couldn't post, and intimidated new Scratchers with realms of forums, some of which didn't even have a purpose. We're not saying new Scratchers are stupid, but if you start out with huge mega-forums (and Scratch does tend to be most people's first forum experience) it can be intimidating.

Oh, and a part of my initial suggestion was to keep a link to the archived forums in a slightly less prominent location. Hopefully the Scratch Team will still follow through with that.

Re: A bit of housecleaning... (Removal of the archived forums)

In my opinion it's a *slightly* negative change. It probably won't make much of a difference, but I think it's good to have as a reference of previous events in the Scratch community.

Until it has been decided to be permanently removed, the articles on the Scratch Wiki will stay.
