I used to do that before we got an Etrex.. The best way to do it if you have a Garmin is to use the "Where am I?" function and try to get as close as you can to the posted coords using that.

If I'm right, if you try to search by country on geocaching.com, Japan is divided into provinces, so that might make it easier to find any near you if you want to.

They're not actually provinces, they're prefectures, and there are 47 of them in a space smaller than California.
