Re: Scratchable Official Collab Thread

Hacking

There was a lot of drama about a bit of "hacking" earlier this month so I decided to make an article about it.
There are 3 main types of hacking on Scratch. The first being the real meaning which is hacking into the software and stuff. The second is, I believe, commonly used in MIT and other similar things. It means, like the first but to improve it. The final one is what puts the ' " 's around hacking. It basically means password guessing, which is what I'll be talking about now.
Well, SpriteMaster was recently "hacked" causing much commotion. The "hacker" got onto SM's account and deleted all his projects. He made an "I quit" project, come wrongly believed it was real, others didn't. The Scratch Team soon manage to sort it all out, getting the projects back etc. IMO there was a bit much fear and commotion- the Scratch Team would've sorted out some time (as they did).
A user named 'Kaj' is thought by many to be a "hacker" since he caused a bit of trouble a year or so ago (and apologised) but is no longer on Scratch. Many people make fake Kaj accounts such as "KajIsBack" or "Kaj2", all of which should be ignored.
The only advice I can give is have a good, strong password. An example could be 569JellybucketFRM34 Or something random like that (do NOT use that). Also never ever ever ever EVER have your password be "Password". Also don't tell anybody your PW- even people you trust. I saw someone say somewhere that they'd told there password to some friends if they promised not to go on his/her account. But what's the point?

Scratch Game Advice #2
Don't Blame The Online Player
~08jackt

Hey again. Time for good article attempt 2.
Okay so you just made a big project with some music and a tone of levels. After uploading it you test it online. It doesn't work. It lags. It crashes.

...So you write "DOWNLOAD!!!!!!!!!!" at the top of the project notes. Here's a news flash; people on scratch are lazy. They aren't going to download it unless it's getting compliments like "THIS IS THE BEST SCRATCH GAME EVER!!!!!!!"

Think about; people play games on Mini Clip and New Grounds all the time. How many people do you think would play them if they to download them?

So it's your job to make a test account and upload speed tests. If you want a truly loved scratch project, it's going to have to load online and work lag free. Now, this won't be such a big deal when scratch 2.0 comes around the corner, but it's something that's really important to do before then.

This, like last's month's article, is based on something I'm still going through now. You have to try to get head around the fact that although the online player isn't great;  you have to use it to the best of it's best ability.

Re: Scratchable Official Collab Thread

Ok, i would like to do a column.  Here is my article: (P.S. it's about personal safety - Energy drinks, i don't know if that's ok, but it was interesting subject)

: Energy Drinks - Are they healthy? :

This is an interesting question, and it's answers do vary.  Mainly, The answer is no!  They are definitely not healthy to you, especially if you drink lot's of it!  One of the more dangerous parts of energy drinks is the amount of caffeine in it.  A standard eight ounce of coffee has the same amount of caffeine in it as an energy drink!  Then add the sugar quantities and legal herbal stimulants and the effects of energy drinks are off the charts!  Energy drinks shouldn't need stimulants, and with sugar with them it makes energy drinks even more dangerous than if it was just the stimulants!  Some people drink more than one at a time, which is a highly dangerous activity, especially if it gets mixed with alchohol.  You can find more about this at http://www.globalhealingcenter.com/natural-health/the-health-dangers-of-energy-drinks/!

Re: Scratchable Official Collab Thread

Here's my column:
Forumer
Edition #2
By gnk2200
Today, our Forumer topic is on flame wars and disagreements on the forums. How do you fix, prevent, and steer clear of them?
What is a flame war? A flame war is a large argument on the forums, and if it is not controlled, fixed, or ended, it can get nasty. But what might a flame war be about? Maybe a disagreement on which project got featured, someone was insulted, someone was banned, many things that offend people.
Preventing Flame Wars
Always steer clear of arguments. If small arguments aren't dealt with, they can grow to a flame war. If you are stuck in the middle, try stating a compromise, contacting the Scratch team, or notifying a mod. If none of these work, leave the topic and don't come back until it is resolved.

If in a flame war...
If you are in a flame war, it needs to be fixed ASAP. You can not go around with people feeling bad, people bullying, or a flame war still lingering over your head. So, deal with it in these simple fixes:
Firstly, always contact a mod/admin. They can close flame wars with the click of a button.
Do NOT take sides. If you take a side, you will be an even bigger part of the flame war.
State a compromise. For example, let's say that Scratcher #1 is upset because Scratcher #2 has insulted him. Scratcher #2 gets defensive, and you're stuck in the middle. You could suggest some ideas that would make them each happy.
