all demos are is MORE SPAM!
and that means less projects in which effort was put into them get attention.

Well, sometimes objectives of the projects change: the creator may no longer be interested in completing the demo, or maybe the creator changes the original gameplay from the demo for certain reasons (I've done so many times myself).

Likewise, there could be others who will still want to play the demo, or even remix the demo.  wink

ah.  cant back away from an argument, can you.
you see, this thread isnt supposed to be taken literally.

Well, the suggestions forum are for serious suggestions for the Scratch program and the Scratch website, so I viewed the thread in a literal manner. Next time, when making a suggestion, try to make it less figurative.  wink

i admit, with shame, ive made demos myself (and then either replaced them with a full version, deleted them when i realised i wasnt going to finish, or, in a couple rare cases, left them the way they were, seeing as they could actually be considered a full game, and werent just "trailers.") but im getting sick and tired of people hyping up others with demos (or even worse, TRAILERS!!) of a game with a ridiculous amount of content that would be possible for an experienced flash designer with alot of time on their hands, but not an inexperienced scratcher.

Yes, I can understand how overhyped demos and trailers usually end up being disappointing. But when it comes to those things, I think it's best to try and avoid projects and search for projects that are more appealing and enjoyable.

also, think of your own page.  nobody wants to sort through pages and pages of "demos" to find the full version.
delete projects when done with them (or replace them with the updated version.  it seems almost nobody knows how to do that)

Technically, wouldn't the finished project be the first ones on the list since it is recently uploaded, and thus easier to find?  tongue

Although, I can see what you mean here. I would like a way to apply a search function for a user's projects, much like they have a way to search through titles for a person's movies on YouTube.

*sigh* cant believe im getting trolled by a couple of mods

No, you're not being trolled.  wink  Actual trolls act on the intent of committing some serious damage.

*looks around* But I really don't like the tone that's going on here. Everyone, let's tone the anger down a bit.

lets see basically what im trying to say is that people in general shouldn't flood the site with 5 minute projects, (hint hint- sarcasm.  i really mean little effort put in, or in some cases, decent effort put in but low quality results, dont get into a morals argument with me here (i.e. dont quote what i just said here and make a point against it (this parentheses in getting more and more pointless))) and only submit their best, (usually) finished work.
i sardonically (im not sure what that means but it sounds good here) titled the thread "Automatically delete projects with the word "Demo" in the title" as a way to grab the attention of those with a similar feelings as i do, and it was not meant as a way of asking the mods to quite literally delete all projects bearing the said word in question, but rather express my frustration with what i consider spam, and others consider to be work of a god (that was sarcastic to, fyi, but you get my general opinion (i hope))

No, no, I get it. There are times where I come across projects that seem to have been done with little to no effort, or where I wonder if the person isn't exploring Scratch enough and see what it is capable of.

The only thing is that sometimes there are users who are on the website who can be young as five years old, or some who haven't had much programming experience, so I don't usually think it's fair to dismiss their projects as being spam-like (especially if they're new to using Scratch). In cases like those, it would be better to comment on those projects and leave suggestions that push the user to advance more with Scratch. For example, if someone posts a simple project of a bunny hopping up and down on the screen, giving a suggestion (like adding an interactive friend for the bunny) is more likely to encourage the user to explore more features that can be done with Scratch.  smile

Re: Automatically delete projects with the word "Demo" in the title

The Scratch site is designed as a creative learning space where people of all experience levels can experiment and share projects with each other.  There is not going to be any automatic deletion of projects based on any sort of measurement of "quality".  That would not help foster the creative learning environment we are looking for.

If you are looking for a community with a more competitive focus - perhaps you would be more comfortable with Newgrounds.
