PC vs. Mac

Okay, so the common stereotype about PC-users, is that they are uncool, get-a-life nerds, while Mac users are cool, hip people that use their computer for video chatting, making music, etc.

The common stereotype about Mac users, is that they are holding an overpriced, piece of junk.

I'm looking at laptops for future. I am wondering what laptops you use, and why use them. Why do you use a certain operating system? Give me lots of links with the [url]tag.

I'll see what laptop to start pitching in for.

Oh, and my desktop is a Windows 7 Home Prenium 64-bit Compaq computer.

Re: PC vs. Mac

I'd go for PC. My laptop is a Toshiba with Windows 7 Home Premium 32-bit. It was loaded with Vista HomeP x86 so I upgraded to 7 HomeP x86. This computer DOES support x64 though.  big_smile

For all the n00bz, it says I only have one. Not I only use one.

The funniest thing about that is that most GarageBand songs I've heard sound AWFUL. I assume most people just don't know how to use it properly.

Anyway, you can probably do anything you can do in a Mac in a PC with the right stuff.

If you use PC, why are you calling yourself, me, and all PC users nerds? This could get flame-y.

Re: PC vs. Mac

A PC (personal computer) is a computer which is for personal use. Therefore a mac can be a PC. Microsoft just started to make everyone think that a PC had to have windows on it. Your topic should really be called windows vs mac.

If your buying a computer for business  or company use then the computer would be called BC or CC respectively.

Now as for your question. A personal computer (laptop) is the same whether or not you put a Windows or Mac operating system on it. The only thing that's different is how the OS deals with applications and the applications avaliable for the OS. Therefore you should choose the OS based apon what programs you need for your computer.

Re: PC vs. Mac

I like windows 7 better because of a few things:
1: There's a easy to use search bar right on the start menu, very useful
2: It looks simple and sophisticated
3: It's just more compatible, in my opinion
4: It has the same functionality as a mac, if not more, for just half the price
5: The little applications you can put on the desktop. I love being able to see what the weather's like as soon as I turn my computer on, without going outside!

Back. For now. Maybe.

I'm using XP (getting win7 soon.  smile  anyone have it and could tell me what it's like?) on a TOSHIBA Satellite Pro. It's fab!  big_smile  I've dropped it, hit it, thrown it and it's still going strong (accept the hard drive!!!  lol ) - A very good PC.

Re: PC vs. Mac

Here's my take on it all.

Mac:

Pros:
computers are very high quality (Made of aluminum);
Mac OS X is a very secure, unique, UNIX based system;
Apple has support for pretty much all their macs (Including the older ones);
All Macs use the fastest CPUs, best GPUs, and fastest CD/DVD superdrives;
A very easy to use interface with powerful features;
All macs come with XCode, a very powerful development suite for iPhone and Mac applications;
All macs come with BootCamp, an application that partitions the drive to run Windows natively and switch at startup;
Can run Linux and Mac applications;
64 bit, naturally;

Cons:
Expensive;
Less customizable;

PC/Windows:
Pros:
Helpful Warning sounds;
Highly customizable;
Less expensive;
Easier for development;
More widespread;
More developed for;
Command Prompt is just plain fun;
Interface has gotten better over the years.

Cons:
Crash a LOT;
Demanding OS needs fast computers;
Not very secure;
Harder to use;

My suggestion: a Mac Mini. They're reasonably priced, they have more than the necessary means of booting off Windows, and more.

EDIT: Oh yeah, the best Mac can have up to 8 terabytes of hard drive space, 32 gigs of RAM, up to 5.32ghz processor, And support for up to 6 displays.

They're basically the same thing. Sure, there are differences, but really
Ask anyone who has owned both. They're really similar
And PC stands for personal computer. A mac isn't personal? I guess not

PC typically refers to Windows computers. Even though Apple did invent the PC.

Yeah, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu are great. Although I do mostly use a MacBook running Snow Leopard. I've developed a major grudge against Microsoft because before it started running Ubuntu, it had Windows Vista, and it crashed 5 times. We finally just decided to abandon Windows altogether.

Yawn, another boring text signature. I should really make something better.

The Operating System Friends

PC: I'm a PC. I have Windows. I have the smartest multitasking, and most RAM. In other words, I rock.

(Enter Mac)

Mac: I'm a Mac. I kick butt with my user interface.

(Enter Ubuntu)

Ubuntu: I'm an Ubuntu. You guys suck. I'M OPEN-SOURCE.

(Enter Linux)

Linux: I created you Ubuntu. I AM THE BEST.

(Enter Unix)

Unix: I am THE operating system. I am the god of all computers. I am the mother of Macintosh, Linux, AND Ubuntu.

PC: You don't have control over me! I'm the BEST!

Unix: *blasts PC with a laser gun* Yeah, Windows Vista, the hero. *scoff*

Mac: Actually, I have control over PC. My company INVENTED the PC.

*PC comes back*

PC: What happened? Why am I back?

Mac: It turns out I have control over you. Apple invented the PC. You will now cater to my every whim for the rest of your life.

PC: *turns to Unix* Can you kill me again? I don't want Mac to make my life miserable.

Unix: No problem. *blasts PC* I hate you too.

(Exuent)
