How to cahange a thirty second video into a gif?

I'm making a commercial for my homework, and I want to edit it in Scratch to put cartoonish-looking things in it. How do I do that?

Thanks for your help, and Scratch On!

(PS: If I record it in CamStudio can I put it in a Powerpoint?)

This looks promising:
http://www.wikihow.com/Convert-a-Video- … -Animation
Haven't tried it, but came across it when Googling "video to gif".
And no, if you record it in CamStudio, it will generate an .avi file that is not playable by PowerPoint (unless you convert it to a GIF using the above method and want to put all the frames on separate slides, which would be hard (not to mention the stress of continually pressing a button to play it)).

Yawn.

Record it with anything you want, open it with animation shop and then save it, it is now a GIF.
