I know this may be a bit to much for the scratch team at the moment, but I'm just suggesting this as a future possibility.
The iPad is perfect for scratch. You could have a similar interface to the computer version but adapted for touchscreen.
I think this would be a great improvement for scratch, and would make it more public, and convenient.

You haven't done anything wrong.
It's been suggested a lot that Scratch make it to the iPod Touch or iPhone, but I don't think it has been suggested too much for the iPad.
The problem, however, with the iPad is that there are far less people who own this device. It takes a lot of work to create an App, especially a full-fledged Scratch app for the iPad. The latest stats show that there have been about 3 million iPads sold. Apple is pumping them out as fast as they can, but the iPad still remains a novelty.
And out of the 3 million iPad owners, only a handful of people know about or use Scratch. So really, it would just be a lot of money for, well, nothing.
On a side note, there was an app for the iPod touch / iPhone, but you could only view projects. Apple pulled it off the App Store for violating their policy, but they've changed it now so it's likely we'll be seeing it back soon.

Actually, Apple updated their policy, but it still won't allow the Scratch viewer. Apps aren't allowed to download files, and the player needs to download Scratch projects, which are files....
So - we agree, it would be great to have Scratch - viewer and / or editor - on the iPad! But for now that's not permitted by Apple's policy. Let's hope they change it or make an exception for Scratch.

Actually, Making apps is not that hard at all. (For an experienced programmer, that is)

Wait a minute, I have a LOT of apps on my iPod that can download files (Tap Tap, Soundrop, TonePad, etc.) and those are recommended by Apple.

But those files are downloaded from an approved source, directly from Apple, I believe. Scratch projects are coming from the Scratch Website.

Oh. That makes sense. What I really want is just a Scratch development app that can't upload or download, but can send and receive Scratch projects by bluetooth.

Now with the iOS4.2 update, they can just do that "Shared Files" in iTunes, where you plug your iPod in, go to the Apps tab, and scroll down to it and then upload Scratch programs from your computer to it... And BTW, the app made for iPod touch and iPhone for Scratch also was compatible with iPad, it was Universal (not one of those apps where you have to press 2x in the iPad corner )

Just a side note, the scratch project viewer was also iPad optimized.

Not to totally bump this thread, but there are many more iPad users now. And apps are allowed to download from the Internet now. Several apps download the resources and media from any website. Couldn't Scratch Team use the same principle? Download the scratch resource. Apps are allowed to compile/run code pretty freely now. I have been itching to view and write scratch programs on my iPad.

I can run scratch off of my laptop by using the free program logmein. It is basically a remote desktop viewer for iPad. Pretty cool stuff, but still nowhere as near as good as a scratch app could be.

Maybe instead of downloading the files, it could read them directly from the website?
Or even have a few Scratchers from the AT who know Objective-C and are Apple Devs (*COUGH* stevetheipad *COUGH*) make an iPad app that would be able to create projects, save it to an iTunes account, then be able to upload it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that there can't be an iPad app for the same reason that there can't be an iPhone app. See my post on this topic.

This would work well. It isn't complicated and would allow transferring projects to/from the iPad. It would also fit the Apple rules.
Also, as of December 29, 2011, about 40,000,000 iPads have been sold according to PC World.

The reason I bought an iPad was mainly for Scratch

Scratch for any iOS device would be absolutely great. It would be excellent on the iPad because it has a big screen, whereas on the iPod/iPhone it woul be a bit fiddly.
Here's an interesting question: is it possible to build a small version of Scratch using Scratch? (It would probably end up in a million sprites an scripts.)

You can with a jailbreak. But it'll have to be zoomed

Soundrop doesn't download files. It rocks though.
Anyway, huh, Google Play doesn't have any restrictions and I know processing...
