i put this in new people since i think im not doing some thing correctly because when i open scratch with the project it says
project cant be used; file may be damaged (key not inserted)
i have no idea what this is how to fix it or where the download scratch button is (its very illusive)
(also i dont think what i wrote up there is word for word)
im also somewhat new to the forums but not making stuff

This should be in All About Scratch.
Also, this can happen when the page isn't fully loaded and you download it, or maybe it's just the project.

Ah, you're not making a newbie mistake, this error comes up at times when the project file gets damaged. File projects can get damaged either from download error (ie. you download a project from the site and the file becomes corrupted during download), or from quitting the Scratch program while a file is being saved.
I'm not sure of damaged files can be repaired (to my knowledge, one the project is damaged, it's gone for good), but I can redirect the thread to 'Troubleshooting' and maybe someone there can be able to help.
Yeah, the download link is very illusive, but it's actually easy to find on the front page when logged out. But I'll save you the trouble of searching for the download link: click here.

I believe "Troubleshooting" is much better for this particular situation.
A little advice when finding misplaced threads: It's usually better to hit the report button when you think a thread is misplaced, moderators usually have better discernment when redirecting topics to a more appropriate location.
