true but that would be working backwards. If the viewer is going to be viewing our text based scratch project made with our new scratch we need to make this new text based scratch and a facility to decode normal scratch projects into text based scratch projects. Then make a viewer for the text based scratch!

Hey guys, maybe after we finish the viewer, we could try to remake Scratch in HTML and JS. It'll take a while, but I bet we can do it.
Yeah, thats what I thought!

That's what I thought too. I've started something called HTMLgames.

We need to come up with some commands than like this:
if (1=2){
do this
}
else
{
do this
}
ect...

Again, do you guys actually have any idea of what the .sb format actually is? Or are any of you proficient enough in Squeak/Smalltalk to look through the source code and gather full documentation on the format?
I hate to be a party pooper but at the moment, this looks to be a very ambitious project without any solid backing. And projects like that always falter and never get complete, without exception.

There's definitely exceptions! Think of Panther!

I'm not actually decoding the .sb file first - I'm making a HTML5 scratch!

Panther actually does have solid backing as far as I can see (a development team fairly experienced with Squeak, Smalltalk, and the Scratch source code).
Also, if you're making an HTML5 Scratch, you'd probably need to know how Scratch itself does things if you want compatibility.

Interestingly, you're both right; having known so many other languages when I began Panther, I had a pretty good backing for actually writing it; however, when I started, I barely knew any Smalltalk.
But, to be more on-topic, I think I agree with S65.

I agree. Has anyone finished anything yet?

Only problem with this is that you'd have to use some Flash to play MIDI notes and sounds because JavaScript can't play sounds. (I don't think, anyways...)

Im decideing to scrap sounds

There are some hacks to do it with embedded media elements, I saw one on Dynamic Drive.

Can we just get it done?

...see what I mean...
I would be getting stuff done, but between school and small trips on the weekends, I don't have a lot of time.

Yeah, I've been to some websites that have background music.

Yes, definitely PHP, then you'll reload the page and if something's true that wasn't last time, you might just get a sound to play!

hello, I don't know to much JavaScript, but I am hoping to learn. I have some good connections and could learn it fast. Can I join? So I can learn and perhaps help? I am a great web designer. I am good at object oriented languages, and I understand smalltalk quite well. I know lots and lots of CSS, and a good lot of HTML. I know enough HTML 5 to make a video player / music player.

I made a forum on the site, you could sign up for an account for that, then once you're accepted into the collab, I can make you a moderator.
Speaking of moderators, jd1, Daffy and TheSuccessor, Sign up in the forum and I'll make you a moderator.
