What are some traits you think a moderator should have?

They should be helpful, kind, firm when they need to be, quick to listen, slow to speak, slow to become angry, and friendly.

How can or will you improve the protection of the Other Language forums? I've seen a couple of people exchanges e-mails there.

Hm - I'd say, as a community, if you see anything that looks like an email exchange, just report it - it's easy, helpful, and no mod powers required  big_smile  (you don't necessarily have to speak the language... I skim over the OL forums (even though I only speak French and English) occasionally, looking for commercial spam, and email exchange. Links and emails look pretty much the same, whatever the language  big_smile )

One of the hardest parts of moderation is finding things to clean up - a report on spam might not seem like much to you, but it's a valuable resource to us.  smile

Also, the biggest problem with the OL forums, IMO is that, because less people look there, spam, email exchange and such can go unreported for days or even weeks. So probably the best way I can think of to keep the OL forums clean is just by anyone taking a quick look through a few OL threads, and reporting emails, spam and the like  smile

What's harder with OL forum moderating is finding and cleaning up arguments - machine translations can be misleading sometimes, and innocent discussion may be seen as an argument, or an argument might seem like a normal discussion...  hmm

I'll leave that for the voters to decide.  smile
Myself, I think that a moderator should be honest, understanding, kind, respectful, and above all, patient.

There should be a thread in the OL forums that shows a user how to report a thread.

Does anyone else think that all these "Vote for Me!" topics are losing them votes?

Possibly, that's why I made mine to announce I'd be running, but now I've let it die down by not bumping it at all.

Re: Community Moderator Election Debate Topic!

You could have made a topic called "Kileymeister is running for mod!" instead.

Mine was called "Kileymeister for Moderator" so close enough.  But I'm gonna let it die down anyways.

How would you handle a general flame war?

I would kindly tell them to stop it, but if they didn't stop, I would close the topic and, if necessary, make some bans.

Excellent question!  big_smile

I will post a few warnings and remind the users to follow the rules. I will also ask people to report inappropriate things. On top of this, I will use Google Translator to see any inappropriate material so I can remove it.
