Private American colleges and universities generally cost a lot if. But government-sponsored American colleges and universities are much cheaper. Check out the Grove School of Engineering at City College of New York; it's also world renowned, and it's around $4000 per year for a full-time graduate student. Compare that to MIT's tuition costs which are in the tens of thousands of dollars.

Actually, some are very good. GT is ranked as the 6th best engineering school in the country, and it is public. Chapel Hill in NC is also ranked highly as a Liberal arts school. Berkley is ranked 3rd in engineering but is also a state school. It just depends.

At the moment I would think I might look at it, but I still have a lot of time and I can't say anything about it really.

I really want to visit MIT sometime

No, I don't think it would be any different for Canadians.
People from all around the world go to MIT.

No. Even if I did, it would only be part time.

I'm hoping to go.

Yeah, I just checked it out, there are some rate differences between in-state and out-of-state students (out-of-state students apparently have to pay about twice as much per credit). Obviously, when it comes down to it, it's usually the room and board accommodations that end up breaking the piggy bank, so to speak; but if you can get an apartment for cheap or someone who's willing to house you in for free, then the price is reasonable.

No matter the cost, I still want to go. At least for a visit.
I want to go, but all my friends are laughing at me for dreaming big.
Whatever. There are some other collages out there that are great, too.

If I'm not mistaken, Cheddargirl is already in college.
I can't seem to find anything in the forums supporting that, so I'm probably wrong.
