I do like it when you need to discuss something that doesn't relate to scratch, but what if a new rule can be made that states that no one can use Scratch as Twitter .

i think there just needs to be better guidelines. plus, this stuff would just show up other places.
don't close, just better guidlines.

Considering the average age of the users, this should've been expected when the Scratch Team made Inspiration and More. And that was 2 years ago, so there's obviously a reason they've kept it that long.
That said, Miscellaneous has gotten kind of out of hand lately. But think about it, what would closing it do besides cause an uproar and filling the rest of the forums with spam? I agree with the "make the guidelines stricter" idea. Topics should actually have a point to them, not "OMG IM GOING TO THIS PLACE TOMORROW".
Also, there's nothing wrong with having an offtopic section, even if this is the Scratch forum. It's standard in most places, just like smileys (and you're not going to suggest we take those away, right? ) And think about the people whose parents won't let them join anything other than the Scratch forums. It's fine where it is now, we should just think about changing the rules a bit.

First of all, this should be in suggestions.
Second of all, I don't really agree. I support moving the forum to a separate website. But we don't really need the Misc. It's just, kind of, here. Moving to another site would be pointless, kind of, since this is a programming site.
I agree with closing Miscellaneous.
Hmm...
I can't decide what to think about this. I sort of agree, because misc is what has been distracting many potential good project makers, but without it, we can't make widespread irrelevant announcements...
Hmm...
Ok, I agree. Show and Tell and Project Ideas, two of the most important forums, are barely getting any use because misc is occupying everyone's time
So maybe closing misc would be a good idea

These pretty much sum it up...

Closing miscellaneous means there would be spam in other topics. Miscellaneous is strictly for topics that don't go in any other section, not for off-topic. I think the mods should just go on a full clean up and take out the random/off-topic threads, and the rules should be made stricter.
"Use this forum if you are not certain if the topic is directly related to Scratch. "
Notice how it doesn't say:
"Use this forum for off-topic threads"
Very true.
But, the thing is, is that off topic threads are always put there.
So, off topic threads are crowding things sorta relateds to scratch (i.e. programming, other video games, ect.)

I agree
There's nothing worthwhile in here.
Or at least we can take out post counts
No one cares about them any more now that they closed that list (and if they do, I don't think I can help)

I agree.

How about we
-Make the rules in Misc. stricter
OR
-Move Misc. to the same site as the TBG
How's that sound?

I guess I support

TBG mod support.
What now mods saying they won't like it.

I kinda enjoyed chatting in the Misc forum. But I agree it's way to much like Facebook now But I don't think we should close the whole thing. There are some interesting topics in there. I find a difference between "What do you want to be when you grow up?" or "What country's do you want to go too?" and "My cat died" or "This movie sucked".

You read my mind?
No need to delete it, just move it somewhere else.

But then can't users just use chat forums? The Scratch Team is keeping the forum....

Exactly! It's completely wrong.

NO WAI
The TBG and Miscellaneous are completely different things - plus, the TBG moderators aren't going to be so keen to moderate Miscellaneous; after all, none of them are Miscellaneous addicts.

OMG NO IF YOU DO THAT I'LL I'LL- I don't know, maybe I would troll or flame or something. I'm that desperate! The Misc. Forums provide a welcome respite to "Gravity Script" or "Fire and Ice RPG" (No offense). I don't mind having to sort out facebook and IMA GOIN TA AFRICA!!! stuff to get to the good posts. Besides, I don't usually bother. Interesting posts are differing between different users...
(My friend also supports. He says that he'll use a Perl Script he made to spam, troll and start a flame war on the forums, with several accounts, and then quit Scratch)

um, I'm not sure what you mean by that at all. However, I have come up with a suggestion that might satisfy people, that is, to separate Misc into Events and Things (Yeah I'm not sure what things should really be called)
Basically, there would be a separate section for people to talk about events rather than a specific subject, for example: (I'm copypasting topic names here)
Events
Shock!
I need to get a life!
My [very failed] attempt at a Scratch Cat Plushie
Things(I need a better name for this)
Petition to get the Pac-Man project back online!
Official Team Fortress 2 thread
Sanity Gaming
In this case Events would be moved away from the main site, alike TBG, because it is a lot more chatty and problem causing. Things would stay as Misc., however, since that is (what I think) Misc. was originally made for.

But of course there are some things that might not fit inside those categories, so we would need to make an Other section in that which is where you put topics you're not sure belongs to what category, but wouldn't that be another Miscellanous?

The Misc. forum is for stuff that is NON SCRATCH RELATED. If you don't like it, don't go there. If you want a forum for the sort of Misc that YOU want, then make a new forum, don't close the old one. That's my only request. Not to close the old one. I don't care if you make a flying rabbit, or a new Misc forum, or another freaking site.
