Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

I still love it.  smile

I noticed that the mod block has been changed to the symbol "%." I'm concerned that this will confuse Scratchers because most kids who haven't had experience with a text programming language associate "%" with percentages.

Have another rant:

Presentation mode. You won't be able to test the game if you don't have this, because window mode is extremely glitchy. (At least in normal Scratch)

Make the blocks always visible so that you don't have to repeatedly click stuff. Also, you may be editing and need to see the game but the blocks are in the way.

The (admittedly rather blunt) finale to my rants:

The image on the pick random block ruined it once and for all.

no, there will be a 2.0 downloadable, and the online for quick remixing.

Who said that? From what I've heard, it's going to be fully online...

An offline version of Scratch 2.0 will be available that will allow you to create, edit, and save projects locally when you don't have internet access.

The blocks and such look different - is that what they'll look like in Scratch 2.0? I prefer the Scratch 1.4 look!  yikes

By the way, I agree with scmb1. I don't know what "() % ()" is at first too. The "dice () to ()" block can also be confusing.

Same here.  sad

I doubt it, though.

This is experimental, after all.  wink

EDIT2: how do you edit the sprite?

You can tinker with the scripts of a sprite by playing with the blocks that already exist in the project or by dragging out blocks from the palette - you'll need to click on the colored squares between the stage and workspace or < <

However you cannot edit the costumes or sounds of a sprite.

do we have an expected time of release for this feature, or will we need to wait for 2.0?

Scratch 2.0, which we expect to release sometime in 2011, will definitely have this editing feature.  In the meantime, we may release prototypes like the Experimental Viewer to test these ideas and features.

I agree with you about the "dice () to ()." I'm not sure I'd know what it meant if I had never used Scratch before.

the % sign is actually the real symbol for modal (or modula? cant remember).
the dice one is actually pretty obvious

Not every child knows about 'random'. Some of them may not be able to understand the "dice block".

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

I think the dice block is perfectly fine. Most people have played a boardgame or something before, and a dice is a pretty common object. It does represent probability, and randomness - so it's pretty self-explanatory.

I could take it or leave it. Personally, I'm perfectly fine with the graphics for the blocks in 1.0.

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

I think it should have turbo speed. But that may be a little useless, because when I ran Dr. Freeze ray DEMO#2, Dr. Freeze ray went a lot faster.

Ouch! Major bug found (no pun intended, even though I'm playing The Fly  big_smile  )! Color sensors don't always work!
