Go wash your mouth out with soap!  Such language...

The "obsolete" block appears when Scratch finds a block that is no longer supported (like the old comment block from 1.2 beta) or one that it can't recognize (any custom block added to a modded version of Scratch.  Ask somebody in the Advanced topics forums...they probably have a project with something in it that will appear as obsolete.

Also if it was uploaded with a mod of scratch(which is against tos) the "blocks added in" would be obsolete.

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

The two knobs in this project aren't working in the Experimental Viewer. However, they work in both Scratch and Java*.

* Except there's another problem in Java - "set volume" block not working

I think this is a great idea for the scratch community!  big_smile  I think it would be a good idea to keep the current view, too, though.  hmm

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

Some bugs I noticed ..

if a program does not have any variables -- you cannot create new ones in the experimental viewer. if the program does have variables all the normal variable options appear.

Scroll bar issues ..

Want to try a new way to play with Scratch projects? The Experimental Viewer is now available that allows you to explore and play with all parts of a Scratch project directly in your web browser.

To find out how you can test out the Experimental Viewer, go to: http://scratch.mit.edu/experimental

Please leave any questions, comments, or bugs on this forum thread.  We look forward to hearing your thoughts on the experimental viewer!

I personally like the old block style better.  The new style in the Experimental Viewer looks somehow strange.  Other than that, the new veiwer is very cool.   cool

Yeah, I agree - hopefully they'll revert to the retro style by 2.0.

When Scratch 2.0 does happen to come out, it lets Android and Chrome Notebook users program with the online version. Maybe.

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

How can I make the experimental viewer reload the project from the web?

I ran my project in the experimental viewer and didn't like the way it looked, so I made some changes in the regular scratch program and uploaded the changes.  Now, when I view my project in the experimental viewer it shows the old project without any of my changes.

I turned off my computer, router, and cable modem thinking it was caching here, but I'm still seeing the old code in the experimental viewer.  I even deleted my temporary internet files.

How can I force the experimental viewer to load the current version of the project?

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I have a very serious question about the new 2.0 viewer.

Why did you choose Flash over HTML5/JavaScript?

Had you choosen the latter, you'd automatically have support for iPhone et. al.

I asked the Scratch Team precisely the same question, although I was more leaning towards the open-source aspect of Scratch, which Flash, well, isn't. The answer I got (from a member of the Scratch Team not in charge of that decision) was that JS and HTML5 are still developing technologies, with little support for a lot of the stuff Scratch needs, such as sound libraries. Now I'd better stop before I say too much.  tongue
