But 1.4 won't work with the new Scratch Website, will it?  hmm

I'm worried if a lot of the little tiny features in Scratch we don't really notice will change as a result of rewriting Scratch - some projects might not work correctly. I was playing an innocent project, and in the normal Scratch a sprite wouldn't 'go through' a roof (that's supposed to happen) - but in the experimental viewer, it did.

It will.  smile

Scratch 1.x will continue to be supported for computers incapable of running Flash, or for anti-Flash people. I think I was told that "Scratch 1.4 will be around forever, the Java player will not" or something like that.

I think on every scratch page it should have, view on java player which links to separate page like flash now. I also heard html 5 is better than flash... should scratch change to this?

You can't do it in the experimental viewer right now.

Scratch 1.4 just feels perfect - and it's so cute, much cuter than the experimental viewer! :3

That's good that they are going to keep a old version of scratch for us to use. It's sorta the way Scratch 1.2.1 is to us right now. As for the Java Player not staying, I'm just hoping the scratch website will keep the old Java player and not replace it with something like the experimental viewer. It's a nice option but I don't think it's going to fit well with the site. Unless the scratch website becomes a flash website of course.

Hopefully they might keep Java as a second option in the future. Those like me with a computer of low speed and high age would prefer usefulness rather than eye-candy, even if the flash player had less glitches. :I

A question: Will the Java Player be replaced with the Experimental Viewer? (Of course, it won't be experimental by then...

Well the Java Player will almost certainly be replaced, because you can't play flash things using Java as far as I'm aware. But hopefully it won't be TOO much like the experimental viewer, because it doesn't look as nice as 1.4 and isn't as easy to use. I'm kind of hoping that it will look very similar to 1.4 just with the extra features. Then there won't be any need for a viewer, you'll just play the projects within Scratch, online...

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

Thank you everyone for your feedback and bug reports on the Experimental Viewer.  Your comments are helpful to the Scratch team in evaluating our experiment.

A number of questions have been raised regarding what will be or not be in Scratch 2.0 based on your observations from the Viewer.  We want to emphasize that the Experimental Viewer is a prototype of ideas and what you see (or do not see) may or may not transfer to Scratch 2.0.

As we develop our ideas and design for Scratch 2.0, we will continue to release updates of the Experimental Viewer and other experimental versions in the near future.  Your ongoing comments and suggestions will continue to help inform the design.

To learn more about the development of Scratch 2.0, see the Scratch 2.0 FAQ:  http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Scratch2FAQ

Scratch 2.0 is gonna be great!! I just tested out the Experimental Viewer and it was AWESOME! I would definitely use that instead of downlading the whole project!! Great job Scratch team!!! XD

Another bug: You can type anything into a number-only input area, such as the 10 in http://info.scratch.mit.edu/sites/infoscratch.media.mit.edu/images/move10steps.gif.

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

Note to all who think this is immensely slow:

Have you ever tried running a large project in editor mode? Has it made your computer crash? Have you ever tried to run such a thing in full screen? Does it make you want to sing?

When the ability to go fullscreen is implemented, it will run 10x as fast and efficiently (in fullscreen).  smile

Re: Help test a new way to play with Scratch projects online!

It's awesome.

Maybe i can give some suggestions later?

1. It's slow.

There should be a presentation mode, like Scratch 1.4

Glitch: when you click the circular blocks, it doesn't report the value.

Couple of things: #1, Some sounds only last for an instant. #2, Half way through loading the project, it goes down and you have to click on it's tab at the bottom of the screen to pull it up again.

That's normal. Try this in Scratch. The only difference is that Scratch turns it into "Hello!".

That's not a glitch. You shouldn't be able to see the variables that someone doesn't want you to see in the project.
