Scratch

The "What the Community is Remixing/Loving/Viewing" rows are often filled with the same people. Why? It is simple. Projects with the most views, loveits, and remixes are put on the front page, where they (along with the creators' other projects) are given more views, loveits, and remixes. It is hard for less "famous" people to break into those rows because they have a double disadvantage: they are not well known and they do not have the advantage of being displayed on the front page, which would give them more views loveits and remixes. The more "famous" people are on the front page, making them more famous. It is a nearly endless cycle.

To tell you the truth, I'm in favor of just getting rid of all three of those rows. However, I know that most people disagree, so I thought of a solution.

When you click on the "See More" button in any of those rows, you see a list of the top viewed, loved, or remixed projects. I think that should definitely stay. However, instead of the front page just showing the top 3 of the list, I think it should rotate among the top 10, 20, 30, or maybe more. There would still be 3 projects showing at a time, but they would change every few minutes.  Projects from the top 20 (for example) vary a lot more in creators and genres than projects from the top 3. The "See More" lists would remain so people could still see what projects are ranked.

I think that each person should only be allowed to get one project on any of the lists at one time, so that, if someone had 5 projects eligible for the top viewed list,  only the one with the most views would appear on the list. That way, when the cycle changes, each author would have the same chance of being on the front page

But, it's just an idea.

My only concern with it, is that sometimes, I only care about seeing the top 3 projects - then if I want to, I will see the top 20 or however many it is with my free time.

Wonderful idea! This focuses more on the community aspect, which is what Scratch is supposed to do, instead of having a specific group of famous people.

In most cases, most channels stay stagnant most of the time because a project in stuck on the front page (at least until the time limit is up); randomly picking from a certain set in the list should bring some more variety to the front page.

As you can see, there are both advantages and disadvantages. I think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages- what about you?
