I signed up a long time ago. It's pretty simple, in fact, I got a character moving and jumping on my first time on a completely blank new game.

just started to day.

i couldn't seem to get a sprite to move left to right...but he could jump.

No, but you can use a flash player, not that it matters since you still can't submit the .swf files.

I don't like stencyl because it isn't simple enough. I spent a while trying to make an RPG-ish game but it just frustrated me. I would have an easier time just making things with flash than with Stencyl and if I import certain libraries (which adds more commands/features) then I don't have any use for stencyl.

Also, it is entirely tile based which alone makes it more capable than Scratch.
