I read a tutorial, but it involves using the world browser. I read somewhere that using the world browser is "hacking". Is this true, and if it is, are we even allowed to use it? Or, is it a glitch?
Don't worry. Scratch is fully open source, so you don't really "hack" it, they just call it that. But the thing is, once you have gotten to the browser, you have to know a good amount of smalltalk code. Or, to make it easier, use the more organized version of Scratch: The source code.

yeah, I downloaded squeak and the source, and dragged the image file on the squeak icon. What I got was basically the system browser, and a scratch window as if you were to open scratch.exe. Does anyone know of any tutorials on this?

I'm afraid I don't know how to answer your question, but this topic looks like it's a little better suited for the Advanced Topics forum - that's generally where we deal with items related to Scratch modifications. I'll move it there for you
As for your question - I know there's a few tutorials lurking about in the Advanced Topics forum. A search might prove fruitful.
