(I'll post this here, since this is where it is most relevant, and probably move it off to the FAQ later).
Mods donate a lot of time and energy to the Scratch community. No mod (or Scratch Team for that matter) is perfect - we all have to make mistakes and learn from them. Being a leader in any community is challenging in ways that are hard to imagine if you've never done it. So we ask that Scratchers are careful to be respectful to moderators, just as we ask them to be respectful of other Scratchers.
However, "Don't disrespect the mods" does not mean "Don't disagree with the mods." It's fine to disagree with a choice by the Scratch Team, or by a mod. You can either contact the Scratch Team with the contact us link, or discuss choices in a thread, as long as it is done respectfully. Like constructive criticism on a Scratch project, this can be a way for mods and Scratch Team to see different perspectives and improve. But the being respectful part is key, especially because it's easier to criticize than it is to moderate. When fair criticism is layered with sarcasm or disrespect, it makes it less likely that it will be heard. Just like on projects, comments, or posts, criticism that is disrespectful or unconstructive is unhelpful, will be removed, and may result in warnings.
So - feel free to share your constructive thoughts and opinions. We do listen and take these things into account when making choices about the Scratch community.

This really cleared a lot of things up, and I'm sure we'll remember what you said and keep it in mind if we have any kind of disagreement or discrepancy with a mod or Scratch team member in the future.

This is a very key point that I think we all need to remember. If we get angry and start speaking with our heart instead of our head, we may sound rude with what we say and it'll get completely ignored.
Overall, very well said!

Disagreeing vs disrespecting, thats a very, very fine line.

True.
(as an afternote, Lightnin, will you give your opinion on this suggestion?)

Long story short, there was a lot of controversy with the Scratch Olympics and the fact that illusionist was getting disrespect for supposedly running the competition wrong, but it was a problem since he's a mod as well as the contest owner.

So some people disagreed with him and he disqualified them because he said that they were breaking the terms of Use and disrespecting a moderator?
Was it Team Moldova by any chance?

That's pretty much exactly what happened. Did you go read the thread?
It was mostly Moldova, but there was also some controversy over whether Team Japan had entered late.
