lolz, i really hope you were joking.

I like pokémon but i thought that FMT's thread was good enough, we did discuss things but for its last few pages its just two people continuously asking for battles, so we had no space to discus things. Thats not what the thread had been used for.

Mod close please.

The Pokemon Center seems to be focused more on tournaments and trades rather than general discussion.  So I'm going to leave this open for general discussion.  Looking through the topics in Miscellaneous, it looks like about 20% of them are Pokemon related...what's one more  smile

Maybe we should have an entire Pokemon forum...

Prepare for a boring, long explanation.

EVs are a stat influencer for Pokemon. Each EV stat can have a maximum of 255 EVs, but you can only 510 EVs in total, which means you can only max out two stats. You can spread out Evs to be least than 255 in each stat, like 100 HP, 100 Atk, 100 speed, 100 Special Defense, 100 Defense, 10 special attack. 100+100+100+100+100+10=510. However, it's highly recommended that you only raise Evs in one stat to 252, which is a multiple of 4, and the extra 3 evs to 255 will be a waste.

How do EVs influence stats? The more EVs you have, the higher the stat will be at level 100.

4 EVs=1 stat point, so 252/4= 63. So that means you can raise a certain stat by 63 points maximum by Eving as much as you can in that stat.

How do you get EVs? This is a very important question. Each pokemon has an effort yield, and you gain EVs accordingly. For example, a Bidoof gives out 1 HP Ev.

1 Ev sounds disappointing, right? Well there are ways to maximize EV gain:

Protein, Calcium, Iron, Carbos, HP UP, Zinc: Remember these? The overly priced drugs that you could feed to your pokemon, but you thought they were useless? Quite to the contrary, they're the best tools for EV training, although expensive. You can get these cheap for 1 Battle point each at the Battle Frontier. With these, you can raise 10 EVs in the corresponding stat for each bottle. This caps at 100 EVs. So, before you EV train, stock up on 10 bottles of the medicine for the stat you want, and feed it to your pokemon. It's crucial to feed before EV training, because the EVs it gives doesn't give out 100 when you EV trained at all, because it caps at when your pokemon has 100 EVs. If you don't understand this, ask me, because I think the way I worded this was confusing.

Power Items: Belt, Anklet, etc: These are extremely important if you want EV training done fast. Each time you battle a pokemon, you get 4 EVs in the item's corresponding stat, plus the EVs you earned from battle. This works for pokemon that don't have the corresponding Effort yield too, for example: 1 Bidoof gives 1 HP EV, and your pokemon has a Power Anklet, which raises speed. Your effort yield for the battle will be 1 HP Ev, 1 Speed EV. Power items can be found at the Battle Frontier for 16 Battle Points each. This may be a hefty price for trainers that are just starting out, but trust me, these are vital if you want your pokemon fully EV trained in 30 minutes or less.

POKEEERRRRUUUUSSSS: This is freakin' amazing. It's a virus that spreads through your pokemon, and it's effect stays forever. Pokerus is a virus that pokemon can obtain. It doubles the Effort yield that a pokemon gains in battle. So take the Bidoof battle from before, here's your effort yield if you don't have pokerus: 1 Hp, 4 speed. Now if you DO have pokerus, the effects are awesome: 2 Hp, 8 speed. This can be used to your advantage, and you can get as much as 12 EVs in a certain stat when battling second-stage pokemon. How do you get Pokerus? Well, it's not simple. You have to get infected by a pokemon in the wild, and that happens at random. The chances of it happening are almost the same as finding a Shiny. Your best bet for getting Pokerus is finding someone on the internet that will trade you an infected pokemon. Trade, and store the Pokemon in your box immediately.

Pokerus isn't contagious anymore after it's had it for two days. You can tell if it's still contagious if on the pokemon's profile screen, it has a purple status bar that says PKRS. If it's not contagious, a smiley face will be in the lower right hand corner of the pokemon's picture. If it's not contagious, go back on the site where you got it from and troll and spam the guy who sent it to you. Blacklist them, whatever. If it IS contagious, congratulations. You now have one of the most powerful tools in the game.

The virus will wear off in two day's time, but if you store it in the PC Box, it's effects are infinite until you take it out. Spreading the virus is another story. First, withdraw one strong pokemon, the pokemon you want to EV train, and the pokemon that has pokerus. Keep the strong pokemon in front, and the two infected pokemon behind. Pokerus will only spread to the two pokemon next to it in the party, so make sure that the pokemon you're EV training is next to the Pokerusmon. Go into some grass, and with your strong pokemon, beat some pokemon, and check the pokemon you're Ev training's status screen. If the PKRS sign is there, good. If not, keep battling pokemon. It'll come eventually.

Once your pokemon is infected, Pokerus's effects will last forever, even when it's not contagious. Store the Pokerus pokemon back in the box, you'll need it for later.

How do you find out that your pokemon is fully EV trained? To find out, go to Sunyshore Market in DPPt, or Blackthorn City in HGSS. You'll find a person who says "Let me check if your pokemon is raised enough" or something like that. If you EV trained right, she'll give you an Effort Ribbon. If not, you screwed up something.

Well, please read this guide, I spent 20 minutes of my time writing it when I could've been doing something else.

Add me I am a fan  smile

I find this odd
My Pokemon stats are too high as in my Charizard
Hp: 318
Attc : 247
Def: 213
Sp.Attc: 275
Sp. Def: 204
Speed: 257
Total is 1514
The Nature is Naughty...I never hacked this game so why does it have over normal stats?

Those aren't abnormal stats.

Charizard has maximum possible stats of the following:

HP - 360
ATK - 293
DEF - 280
SPATK - 348
SPDEF - 295
SPEED - 328.

Your Charizards stats are perfectly legal.

None of them are particularly high in any of the stats, and the EV distribution wouldn't work in competitive play. Granted, Charizard generally isn't the best for competitive play anyway, but of the viable sets it has they all have a different EV distribution.

That's fair enough, and I wouldn't consider that a bad set of stats for someone who doesn't know or engage in EV training. I was pointing out that those stats were not abnormal and in comparison to what they could possibly be were relatively mediocre.
