I'm quitting, that's the end of it

I'm not posting any more projects (why this is in a forum post), I'm leaving Crank. Inc, for my repuation has been lost, I never get comments anymore and I'm no boss.

So, I bid goodbye.

Happy scratching

Sorry if I am harsh, but if you where only Scratching to be popular, being a boss and for your reputation it might be better for yourself to quit.

Nah, I joined to have fun and program stuff. My dad's a computer programmer and I wanted to program even better than him (phhht, likely  tongue  ) so...yeah.

Re: I'm quitting, that's the end of it

you have done some excellent projects and if you joined to have fun and program stuff then you should keep scratching because that is what scratch lets you do.
if you want to improve at programming then you should definately keep going.  It seems a shame to quit.

I agree, but the fun of posting projects is when people tell you if it's good, you should make improvments and maybe make more projects like it. It's like having the same authors of projects getting the same project featured twice or having loads of their projects getting featured by the same creator.

Actually, it does happen. I've only had one featured - one a long time ago, a Club Penguin one.I wasn't a great scratcher so I got loads of mean comments. Though I deleted them, it still made me sad inside.

Okay, I won't quit Crank.Inc, because this is a huge achivement for me and my mum and dad are really proud, so I don't want to give up on that.

But that kind of means I won't quit at all...
Hehe. Might as well delete this post then!

You know, just because you dont get comments and you THINK no one cares about you, dosnt mean you have to quit scratch. The goal is to go from bad in programming, to really good. Then you have achieved something and may quit.

i can't believe you were thinking about quiting!!!!!!!!Crank_INC which you created has been the most successful company i have ever seen on scratch!(no offense to other companies).Crank_INC took a lot of work from you and it was successful.

Sonicpops: I've dealt with much more negative criticism than you have. Why? Because you've got creativity. I don't have that. Due to that and a few other things, I've been mocked many times before. I have as many enemies and haters as friends and supporters. The thing is: you've got potential. You created the first company in Scratch, and took control of it with pride. I could never do that, even if I tried.

Wow, you were with the site for a long time. I guess we all have to move on sooner or later. I hope you learned something about coding  big_smile

PS: Everyone gets negative comments. I get them all the time so it's not just you.

Re: I'm quitting, that's the end of it

I encourage kids not to quit, just because people have left bad comments on your projects.  It might good to take a break occasionally, spending your time on other activities, to come back refreshed and with new ideas after a few weeks away.

I also encourage people not to leave nasty comments.  If you don't like some project, you can either give a very specific suggestion for a small improvement, or leave no comment at all.  Comments can be quite hurtful.  Almost everyone posting scratch projects is a beginner, with less than a year of programming experience.

There are a few of us around who have been programming forever (well, almost 40 years in my case), but we're not the ones being disrespectful---it is usually the weakest programmers who make the nastiest remarks.

Re: I'm quitting, that's the end of it

When you interact with other people, there is always the risk of getting negative comments or no attention at all. We do our best at trying to minimize the number of nasty comments and to bring more attention to more people's projects. You got one of your projects featured and Crank Inc. is an inspirational story, it has even been mentioned (under a pseudonym) in an ACM magazine article. You should tell your dad! since he's a programmer he might be very familiar with the ACM  smile

As you see from the previous messages, a lot of people appreciate what you've done and wish you the best. I hope you decide to do what is best for you without worrying too much about what others think. I know it's hard because we all look for some kind of recognition and we get sad when we get negative feedback. How to deal with that is something we keep learning throughout our lives.

Programming with Scratch is one of the many cool things you can do with your time and we cannot expect that everyone will keep using Scratch forever. There are other languages you can learn, other communities you can join and other activities you can do (like go outside and enjoy the sun light). However, I do hope you realize that you are already a programmer and that even if you decide to be a lawyer, a doctor or an artist, knowing how to program has helped you learn a different and very powerful way  of thinking... and that is really cool and useful no matter what you do!

Scratch on!

Re: I'm quitting, that's the end of it

You shouldn't quit unless you've found some better programming language that's as easy as scratch(I havn't yet, and probably never will  smile  ), but anyway, when I was going to quit, my family was on me like a pack of vultures against a wounded lion, so I had to get back on and away from them lol! No wonder I started!
