Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

I'm making a quick starter page and selection screen for the game arcade.
As I don't know which other games we want I'll just put a pacman button and do it as we go along
I'm also making a quick pong game to go in as well  smile

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

OK - I made an AI pong style game last night ^^ I don't think the bouncing is perfect, though (I was aiming for reflection... ie: if you shine a torch into a mirror at 45 degrees from a line perpendicular to the mirror surface (I think it's called the normal?), it will reflect back at -45 degrees from the same perpendicular... I ended up using the Wiki's bouncing method in the end, adapted for what I needed)

If you want to make 2 player pong, we could put both of them in  smile

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

Cool, I won't make one now, can we think of any more arcade style games
Pacman is now little yellow guy just in case the NAMCO thing is true
and is there any way to hide variables and then show them when x is broadcast??

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

You could hide variables when the green flag is clicked, then "when I recieve x" "show variable"

As for more arcade games that would be fairly small...

We could make just about anything and add pixellated graphics xD Joking, but if we can't think of any, we could do that.

A small version of a Mario Kart style game? We could top-down scroller it on a small track, with small cars, and have an AI to race against... We could probably do that with 3 sprites...  hmm

A platformer? They always go down well...

Dig Dug..? I can't remember the rules, though xD

MLC was making Space Invaders...

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

Well if space invaders will be an arcade game we should be fine, as 3 is pretty respectable.
So in the game arcade we will have
Pacman - done
Pong - done
and Space Invaders

I have made the start screen and I'll add pong onto it now  wink

@Wolfie do you mind if I change your pong a bit?
It's just the ball travels quite slowly and maybe I could change the angle?

Hmm... would you like to make a 1s1s project for the library? (sorry that I took so long in replying - I'm working on the graphics for the arcade)

I've just finished a 1s1s racing game, The graphics aren't that good, but I can work on them.

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

Right... I'm starting to put the library together with cutscenes...

Basic Storyline:

Brother + Sister find an old library, and because both of them like books, they decide to explore.

They find that things move on the pages of a shelf of books move... They read the biggest book on the shelf, and find out that they were enchanted many years before, to bring joy to all who read them.

Then, it's revealed that they are a story on a shelf in the library. And now, you can browse the other "books" (1s1sers) on the shelf.

@Everyone: Could you guys come up with something for the third project, and start working on it? I'm putting the library together with graphic updates... I'll join you when I'm finished  big_smile

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

I just realised... putting Space Invaders in might make the arcade a little sprite-heavy... which could cause lag, which would lower our score...

We have 2 options to fix this:

A. Scale it down, with only one line of invaders or something... but that might make it too easy to beat.

B. Replace Space Invaders with a smaller game. (a 2 player something, perhaps?)

What do you three think?  hmm

Good point.
Hmm... Maybe try to scale it down? I'm not sure, do you have any ideas for a smaller game?

I might have to release my one sprite one script project at the very last minute, because it's extremely complicated and will take ages to work on, plus BulboGrubb's coming round to my house for 6 hours today which will stop me working on it...

OK. I've worked on a very simple way of porting them in ^^ Just don't make the script massively long... I have a really old computer (I'm getting a new one sometime in August or September), so if the script's too long, you might have to port it in yourself...  hmm

Okay, I'll try to condense the script down as little as possible, or I could upload it as having three different scripts, and you could put them together...

Re: Team England Scratch summer olympics - The team is full!

That might work ^^ If not:

To port, all you have to do is copy one of the existing book spine sprites, recolour it, change the book title, and if you're good at word play, change the author's name  tongue  Change the second broadcast to the one you want your game to act on.

Then, make the 1s1s sprite hide when the flag is clicked, and show when it recieves the variable. At the end of the script, make it hide and broadcast "shelf".

Okay, I think I get that, but hopefully the script shouldn't be too large...

What have we decided to do for our third project? Is it going to be a text RPG? Or a simulation?

How about a chatbot? They always seem to go down well... I have no idea how to make one, though Dx

I think a scroller would work... if we were to make something like 08jackt's Radar... with the selectable levels and stuff... it might work  big_smile
