I am honestly wondering why anything political is allowed on this website. It only causes lots of disagreements and problems. Anything relating to politics (whether it be liberal or conservative) should be taken off the website in my opinion.

when your a kid you are soon gonna vote so you should learn about politics, but dont you think its going a little overboard thinking that kids sharing there opinion should be banned for eternity (exageration)? like if I were to say your favorite video game sucks, would you ban me for that?

Adz - you click the download scratch link on the homepage, but please do not spam the forums.
About this topic: I think we do not need politics on Scratch. Remember that not everyone is an American on this site. (Like me, I'm from Belgium) So i agree with pleaseend. Politics are also very off topic for this Scratch site, not?

Projects about politics are perfectly fine as long as they respect the Terms of Use. The forums on the other hand should not be used to discuss about politics but you are free to create projects about politics of your own community or country.

Scratch is the idea of sharing to a community to give valued suggestions and ideas, if you stop political ones, you'd soon have to stop religeon ones, and on and on until finally Scratch would be so limited you could barely add anything, and that would completely take the point out of Scratch. Also you can just not watch political ones if you don't agree with them

Politics are just a part of life. You should be allowed to share your views in the forums. In Ancient Rome, the Forum was a place where citizens gather to discuss things, from apples to politics.

There is a fine line between rioting and politics. Since there is a very diverse community on the website, one's view can seriously offend someone else. For example, should we let communist or fascist projects on the website?

You may talk about politics on this thing we like to call "The rest of the internet."

Yes, a massive quantity of "twice" now.

Projects, yes. Projects that include opinions, yes. Share away.
But just posting political/sporting/religious/best-console opinions in the forums? No. It serves no purpose in relation to scratching.

Well, this isn't LiveJournal. There is only one kind of Forums here - the Scratch Forums. Here, people talk about Scratch, not politics.
Of course, you are allowed to post projects about anything you want, as long as they don't violate the Terms of Use. But that doesn't mean you can post political opinions on the Forums. The Scratch Forums were not made to share your opinions, express yourself or chat, like projects and galleries. The Forums are needed to post suggestions or tutorials for Scratch, report bugs , advertise your projects, or discuss the Scratch website features.

Such a good question...how far does the freedom of speech extend? Can anyone truly say anything they want?
Here on Scratch the important point is that how you say something can be different than what you say...since swearing often offends and isn't necessary to get across ideas it just does not seem appropriate here. But you were asking about whether or not it's appropriate to talk about controversial ideas, and the best answer is that hateful ideas are not appropriate.
I've moved this topic to inspiration and more, since its not directly about Scratch projects. Politics (of any country) is important and if we have ideas or concerns we should be able to talk about them. The Scratch Team of course would love to see us try to express our ideas in projects, but those ideas have to start somewhere
The Roman Forums was a great analogy! In the Roman forums speakers would put on shows, bringing props and telling stories to make their points! So maybe Scratch is like that, only more of a virtual stage?
