How to type accented characters using a US keyboard

1. Click the start button
2. Click "Control Panel"
3. Click "Clock, language, and religion"
4. Click "Regional and language options"
5. Click "Keyboards and languages"
6. Click "Change keyboards..."
7. Click "Add..."
8. Scroll down a bit
9. Click "United States-International"
10. Click "OK"
11. Click "Apply"
12. Click "OK" two times
13. Close the control panel

And you're done! To test the new thing, open notepad, click the new keyboard icon that appeared on the taskbar, and then click "United States-International".
To type an accented character, press one of the following keys and then press the character that you want to have accented: ` ~ ^ " '
For example, pressing ` and then pressing a would result in à.

Example: Pressing " and then Shift+O would give you Ö.

Re: How to type accented characters using a US keyboard

Cool thing to use. Now, when I get back to school, when I'm typing papers for French, I can actually use accents on Word instead of having to put them in with a black pen.

For #3, mine says something else. It says "Date, Time, Language, and Regional Options".

Interesting... But yeah, in Macs you can just do option-a to get å, etc.
