And his username is still shown in Newest Forum User, since it is a rather rude username I suggest making a new account and logging on... So his username won't show...
Done.

I am really amazed that no-one has mentioned doing a test-drive with certain features put up to stop the spammers:
- obviously, enable image tag
- put no limits to it
- announce a great big 'MAC Address' collection for anyone who visits the forums
- if that isn't enough to deter the spammers, wait until they 'attack'
- obviously have the appropriate software set up that collects, for each post, GMT time, MAC address, IP address, firewall address (if it exists) and aaalll that stuff.
- ban the MAC, IP permanently
- we all live in a safe environment
otherwise, if you don't have the software for the 1st option, i have another:
- enable images
- appoint about 50 temporary mods (2 for each time region) that can only disable images on a forum post. i suggest you choose these with a forum appliance, since not everyone would want to view stuff like that.
this solution is only temporary though, while the Sc team does whatever Lightnin has announced.
I hope at least one of these suggestions can be done

Thank you mods. Ick. Anyway, I don't know where it is. Probably in the RPG places. I'm safe. For now....

sorry to be bothering, too curious...
has any other case been spotted recently?

Well, kudos to the scratch team for investigating and wiping out the spam/troll attacks before they got out of hand.

This is an idea that Survivorduck is using on TBG:
To make sure that the spammer's name doesn't appear next to "Newest forum user:" the moderators should have a account ready to log into the forums so that his name doesn't show up.

We get a lot more new members joining the main forums per day than the TBG - we *should* be OK without this, as the "Newest forum user" changes quite frequently

Today I found that [a new forum user] is marked as "New Scratcher". Is there anything related to this 'event'?

"For now" is until things have calmed down, I think

It's just last time, I had to suggest this, and it was a number of minutes before it changed... illusionist created another account and logged on...
Since the name was quite rude, and probably will be again, shouldn't it be dealt with as quickly as possible?

unless the name of the scratcher is 'new scratcher', it's a change made by the scratch team probably to prevent rude names showing up on the new forum user bit.
@WierdF:
it probably has. see this post.

When a user signs up, they are in a seperate user group called "New User." New accounts will be upgraded to "Member" status after a while as long as they are used to post respectfully.

There are a few limitations that come with the title

They won't calm down then! Attacks happened in the TBG yesterday.
I can't believe it, I didn't see anything. Good job! Just a spammer I reported with links to.... sites.

I saw the TBG attacks... I feel sorry for the mods over there - the TBG is usually so peaceful...
As for the links... things have been done about them
