Space War 5 --- Serious Question!

Before getting deeper into working on SW5, I need you all to answer a question.

Since finishing the basic moving/shooting system, I have noticed that it is just about exactly the same as the SW4 engine. The game could take several months if I re-did everything, but it might be a matter of weeks if I just used the SW4 engine.

Should I start from Scratch (lol)?

Or use the SW4 engine?

Re: Space War 5 --- Serious Question!

I say the space war 4 engine is just fine, although a little hard in my opinion(just an opinion though, don't change anything).

Depends on how it will be different.

I'm not asking about difficulty, don't worry.  wink

I'm just asking about the movement system.

Shooting, Dialog, super weapons, bosses and (possibly) enemies will certainly be re-done.

Re: Space War 5 --- Serious Question!

New engine!

Note: The one thing I didn't like about SW4 was that levels were too long. I have a very short attention span, as do many Scratchers, and having more, shorter levels makes me feel like I've accomplished something... Which keeps me playing the game!

Either way, Space War 4 was quite epic. Good luck for the 5th!

To pass levels in SW4, you had to destroy a certain number of ships, and have been in the level for a certain amount of time.

Example:

level1 - 30 seconds, 15 ships
level2 - 40 seconds, 50 ships (total)
level3 - 80 seconds, 130 ships (total)

For Space War 5, I could eliminate the time requirement:

lvl1 - 30 ships
lvl2 - 90 ships
lvl3 - 180 ships

...or something similar...

Re: Space War 5 --- Serious Question!

Will you be posting any demos or videos of SW5 before uploading?

If possible, may I beta test? You know...  tongue

Re: Space War 5 --- Serious Question!

I say use the same engine.

I always re-use old scripts. One of the many reasons my games all seem so similar.
