Surprise and featured

How do projects become surprise or featured projects?

Re: Surprise and featured

Surprise projects are picked at random each time you refresh the home page.  Featured projects are picked by the Scratch team - we try to pick projects that might be popular in the Scratch community, an interesting new type of project, something that might spark new ideas for others, etc.

Hope that clarifies it!

Re: Surprise and featured

We don't have strict rules on what gets to the feature page. I try to put there projects that are either advanced or interesting. We want to have a diversity of beginner projects and advanced ones.

If you have any thoughts on how to pick feature projects please post it here.

Thanks!

Re: Surprise and featured

If you would fix the gallery mechanism so that the owners selected what projects were put in the galleries, then each gallery would be a "featured projects" page, with the criteria for selection determined by the owner (and hopefully expressed in the comments describing the gallery).

Re: Surprise and featured

And what about the top loved and top viewed projects? What kind of algorithm do you use?

Maybe an option like the one that already exists to make a movie a favourite. Viewers could click if they think something is worthy of consideration for a place in the 'Featured' list. Clearly, like the 'Love it' button, only one click per member would be allowable. Any additional clicks would be ignored.
