You know, that was your 2000th post.

I just think that most of the mods wouldn't give up their position after the 4 months are up.

Nice another milestone  smile

I'm not sure how much choice they will have, the Scratch team will make most decisions in that regard (I believe) and I'm sure they will cycle candidates  smile

I thought the page said that after 4 months, the mods and Scratch team will decide whether they should keep going or not.

You aren't a moderator yet  hmm

We are only candidates. The list will be narrowed further before the final moderators are chosen.

You can just check the page and see if you're on there. But I do find it likely that they'll notify you - just like they send you messages if they want you to be curator.

So... What page is it on?

Getty, its ok. There is next TIme. Besides, is becomeing a moderator that important? You can still enjoy scratch to the fullest without mod powers.

P.S. I would have voted for you if you had gotten chosen.  big_smile

I have a question...  hmm

Are we to prepare new speeches for this stage of the election, or will our old speeches be used? Or something else?

Thanks in advance  big_smile

Re: Questions about Scratch community moderator elections...

I want to say to those who were not selected that it was a difficult process choosing.

The main criteria were described on the Community Moderators page:

1. Has been active on the website and forums for at least 6 months.
2. Is willing to commit to moderate based on the Scratch Terms of Use and the Community Moderator Guidelines.
3. Has a history of positive interactions on the site in which they have demonstrated kindness, patience, and helpfulness.

But we also considered which Scratchers might work best with one another. And, as always, we think it's important to try to choose candidates that represent the different members of the forums and the greater Scratch community.

So if you weren't selected this time, it really doesn't mean you wouldn't be selected the next time. Remember, in 4 months time we'll be considering each new candidate's "...history of positive interactions on the site in which they have demonstrated kindness, patience, and helpfulness."  When it comes to this, recent history is more important than the distant past.  How you've been in the past counts for something, but how you are in the next 4 months counts for more.

Scratch On!

It's up to you guys how you'd like to campaign ( as long as it is respectful of other candidates and community members).

Re: Questions about Scratch community moderator elections...

Here's the re-write of my old speech:

I've spent approximately 2 years on Scratch and all most that much time on the forums as well. Ever since I've first started I've been thoroughly impressed by the program and by the friendly atmosphere of the forums. I'd love my own chance to keep up the friendly environment the forums present.

I wish to keep the mood of the forums light and relaxed, but all the same I will remain vigilant and try to
-Deal with "grave-digging"
-Sort misplaced topics
-Filter inappropriate content
-Prevent topics from becoming flame wars

I pride myself on a keen eye for derogatory remarks and flame-bait and have felt helpless when I've seen things I could have prevented if I were a moderator. If I were to become a moderator I'd use my almost constant activity as a time to watch out for hurtful things and clean them up as well as working to keep the forums an organized place and prevent them from overwhelming new users.

I've seen Joren, Paddle2See, MyRedNeptune, kevin_karplus, Jens, and cheddagirl (hope I didn't miss anyone >.>) do admirable jobs of moderating the forums and keeping them clean. My wish is to help them (although some may have "retired") keep the forums as welcoming and helpful as they were to me when I first joined.

Although I doubt I could surpass, or even equal, any of the moderators, and previous moderators, in judgement and dedication, I would try!
Although I may make mistakes, I will persevere (a little cheesy maybe . . .) and attempt to improve the forums.

I'm sure whoever is elected will do a wonderful job and I appreciate any support I get, but I'm more concerned with the well-being of Scratch than my own position here.

Whew . . . that was long-winded  tongue  I tried (and failed) to keep it concise, I may revise it later.

EDIT- I don't really know why I posted on this topic . . . I'll probably move this to a separate thread in Misc.
