Scratch is about creativity. One of scratch's most lovable features, one of the things that makes it so wonderful is the brilliant, vibrant, helpful community. I think that people should be free to post their modifications of Scratch as it follows the share section of the scratch motto and encourages inventiveness and knowledge. Though I agree that mods made of copy/paste blocks are not really that good, people still learn at least a little smalltalk from doing so.
Though this may sound a little hypocritical due to the fact I was angry about this before, (I have rethought this) I think that there is no reason to yell at people who copy your blocks or code without credit, better to remind them that you made it politely and remind them that it is, if not against any rule, just plain rude. You don't need to worry about people not knowing it was your work because any mod that does that is unlikely to get used much at all.
I'm not sure that "spam" is the right definition for the mods as they are not adverts, they do not contain external adverts and are certainly not made of ham. If ONE forum thread is made by the developer of that mod then it's not spam either because they only have ONE thread dedicated to their mod and people can easily ignore it if they wish.
basic rule:
if you don't like mods, don't look at them
peace

This is precisely the reason I suggested a "Scratch Mods" forum:
http://scratch.mit.edu/forums/viewtopic.php?id=34720nah, scratch mods are just a fad. this post is the beginning of the end for scratch mod spammers.
(not-really-)Hypothetical Question:
If I wasn't working on Panther and I asked you if you thought it was a spam mod, what would you say?
teh difference between panther and the spammed mods is that Panther is actually full of things that are new, different, and skillish. excluding stuff by Jens (cuz he's just an insane haxxor), panther is probably the single best mod out there. things like Slash and etc. are just spam, because they're nothing but incarnations of n00biness, i.e. stolen blocks, useless blocks, etc.

You know, everyone starts out ignorant! The only thing that should be criticized along those lines is willful ignorance, i.e., refusing to learn. Struggling to learn is a good thing, even if the struggle sometimes involves bad style, like copying someone's code.
If someone actually claims to have written something they copied, then that's lying, and merits disapproval, I think. But even then (as sparks just said) it's not something for actual creators to get really upset about; everyone understands who's really being creative and who isn't.

That doesn't sound hypocritical at all! It sounds like developing maturity. Hypocritical would be if you were yelling at other people for copying code while simultaneously copying other people's code.

Or yelling at people for copying your code while telling others that they shouldn't get angry at each other for copying code.

They don't allow pictures in forums anymore because people were abusing the ability to do so.

other than in signatures. Or we wouldn't have pictures there right now.
Actually it's pictures and links.

I think people can mod as much as they like. However I do think that people should make their own blocks. I always do.

We mean releasing modded version of scratch, E.g. BYOB, Panther, Slash, Peck. (These are just the ones I could remember at the moment, there are others.)
