Okay, I was at school, and I had a Scratch project on a flashdrive, and the computer was really weird to me, and I took a while to figure out how to open up Scratch. So then I tried to save it as lots of things, and into different files, like documents and stuff. I eventually opened the project up by putting Scratch (the program) on the flashdrive. So, today, I shift clicked the 'R' in Scratch to try and use Mesh, and it didn't work, so I qui. But then when I went to open Scratch, the Scratch program came up, but it was mostly black and distorted, and I saw a message that said, "Squeak cannot open up this file" I was wondering if this had anything to do with the flashdrive, and HOW I CAN FIX IT!!

Just reinstall it. Should work fine.
But this belongs in Troubleshooting.
Wouldn't that get rid of everything I am working on?

Then put the files on a memory stick. Or get them out of the Projects folder.

I'm not sure.

Reinstalling should work fine, though you may want to put your projects somewhere else before you reinstall (then you move the projects back).
Wait - I got that too! I was playing with the System Browser, and when I exited I accidentally saved what I had done! When you try and exit with fill screen on, Squeak asks you if you want to save - the yes and no buttons are right next to each other, and I clicked yes accidentally. When I opened Scratch afterwards, it did the same thing you described. I reinstalled, and it was fixed. Try reinstalling.

Thanks so much, but what file do you think I should save it into?

Any folder on your computer should work fine. Just make sure you'll be able to find it later on.

Just move your projects to a spot on your desktop (anywhere that won't be affected by the reinstalling), and move them back once you're done reinstalling.

On your memory stick or on the computer?
If you're using windows, you can just download the files without installing it. That's what I do. The files only version allows you to run Scratch on any computer without installing it - making it really quite easy to work on a memory stick.

You open scratch and shift click R. then, click save image for end user!
OH THANK YOU!!! If there's anything you ever need, just look for me and I'll help you as best I can!!

It's probably something with the .IMAGE file. Before you do anything by shift-clicking R in the logo, copy the Scratch.image somewhere else, just to have a back-up in case you mess something up.

you computer was destroyed... if you mean it crashed, try booting with safe mode. for windows vista or 7, choose system startup repair if available. if you mean your pc is in pieces, then i can not help you. '_'

OMG THAT IS SO FUNNY! Did you read the starter comment? It says she is having scratch related issues. But it's still funny how you offered a "in pieces" option.

Download winscratch1.4.zip, then open C:\Program Files\Scratch in another file browser, delete scratch.image, then copy the image file from winscratch1.4 to the scratch folder.

I know how to fix it now- open up Scratch, shift click 'r' and that menu should come up. One of the choices says 'save image for end user' and it's fixed!

So this topic can now be closed, right?
