How to avoid getting banned

Be respectful. When sharing projects or posting comments, remember that people of many different ages and backgrounds will see your contributions.

Offer constructive comments. Instead of just criticizing a project or forum post, say what you like about it and offer suggestions on how to make it better.
Give credit. Feel free to make modified versions of other people's projects - just make sure to give them credit. One place to give credit is in your Project Notes.

Be honest. Don't pretend to be someone other than who you are or try to game the community.

Keep personal information private. Don't share your email address, phone number, or other personal contact information.

Help keep the site friendly. If you feel others would find a project or comment mean, insulting, too violent, or otherwise inappropriate, click the link that says "flag as inappropriate."  In the Forums, you can do the same thing by clicking on the "Report" link below a post. The Scratch team will review, and may remove any project, comment or post.

Does this seem familiar? Right. It's the Terms of Use. I wondered if more people would follow it if it had a different header...

This was not for publicity. This was to prevent people - including myself - from getting banned permanently.

We already know the terms of use, sheesh.

There should also be "No exploiting other people". That would get the majority of scratch banned permanently. (exploiting the nature of scratcher's with "I QUIT" projects etc.)

Another one. "If a user decides to leave then changes their mind, dont tell them they were doing it for publicity or make a big deal out of it. Instead, you could welcome them back or ignore the fact that they decided to leave. Scratch is addicting, after all..."

Then when I logged on to apologize to that flying, magical shrub thing, I realized I was banned.

Why is it everyone is going around, biting at somelia? She may have done something wrong in the past, but I'm completely sticking up for her - compared to the usual bullies in Miscellaneous, she's great.

somelia, I support you.

To be honest, somelia is very innocent. She doesn't go around biting people... she's nice, although she can get upset easily.

I'm on her side; she's a good person - much better than the people who bite at her. somelia, we support you!  smile

Great topic, somelia! The tips and writing style are great.  smile  (I'm being completely honest here.)

I'm not trying to be mean, but it IS really frustrating when somebody keeps on saying that they're leaving, but they never do.

Yah, I don't HATE somelia, I'm just a little annoyed that she made SO MANY topics saying that she's quiting/her last post. (About 7 or 8?)

Sorry if I seemed like a hater somelia... (Just notice how I'm not making a topic about it.)  wink

I don't understand what's so frustrating about somebody coming back after quitting. You could just ignore them, as someone else said.

Now only using this account to post in Miscellaneous, but when Miss_Webgal becomes a Scratcher I'm ditching this account.

I think this is really good advice.  The forums are open to everybody that plays by the rules...in this case the Terms of Use.  It's very hard to leave your friends for long, even if you get angry with them every now and then and need to take a little break  smile

Re: How to avoid getting banned

Oh! I think I've got one! Don't make random posts. Like if the posts in on , say, elephants, you wouldn't write about cheese. Also, don't make "Lets be random!" threads. All they do is clog the Miscellaneous and it makes it harder for people to find threads they want to post in. And you know its going to get closed, anyway.   smile  If you do one of these, you're probably not gonna get banned, but you know, its good to just NOT DO IT!  wink

I pretty much knew the rules before even reading them: Be nice and that's pretty much it. That's the main rule.

I haven't felt this happy on the forums for ages.
I can get upset easily, partly because of my brother. Don't ask. He's mean, and makes me very sensitive to the kind of thing that happens on the forums. Teasing is one thing, cruelty is another.

You obviously were looking for replies to this topic otherwise you would have posted a project and locked comments.
