Have you ever tried importing a song into Scratch, and it didn't import and the Scratch program crashed!? Well this guide is for you!
Ok, now that I've got your attention...
When importing songs or sounds into Scratch, it is best to put in ones that have a rate of 256 kilobytes per second EDIT: or less. This is like, how much memory or whatever the song is per second (the problem might also have to do with the sample rate. For example: 44khz). I tried putting in a song from an album and it didn't import it into Scratch, made this weird noise, and Scratch crashed. I decided to compare one of my normal songs, to these 'experiments'. I found out that the song was at 320kbps, and the normal song was at 128kbps. To protect yourself in the future, right click your song and click Properties, searching for the sample rate/rate (probably found on the Details tab). You don't want to end up importing a song in the middle of an unsaved project only to find out... the worst...
WAYS TO FIX THIS:
1. The first way is for Scratch to allow songs with higher rates. But higher rated songs do have higher file sizes (12mb for a song with 320kbps rate compared to the same song at 2mb and 128kbps when fixed up).
P.S. I noticed a WAV 'format' I tried importing wouldn't import (though it didn't crash)... in other news!
2. Another way (which is a bit more tedious) is to download and install Audacity, a sound editor and recording program. Click "File" and then "Import". Locate your song and import it into Audacity. Once there, audacity automatically sets it to a pre-defined rate-- so the song fixed itself while importing! EDIT: Though you can still set it to what rate or sample rate you want
. Now all you have to do is click "File", then "Export". Export it as a MP3 (or wave if you were using that).
--and you're done! It does take a while to export/import some songs though (up to 27 seconds so far, for me).
I hope this guide has helped or will help you in the future with your sound importing problems!
Keep scratching!

EDIT: Oops! I got it wrong, it's actually 256kbps not 128kbps (i did another test). Sorry, I'll fix
