Re: Math question.

-55 feet is impossible.

but if it were possible, you would have to do 620+55.

Ok, thx it was part of my math homework, and I forgot how to do it. Now you have conformed my suspicions... I think I spelled a lot of stuff wrong...

-55 feet is possible, it just means 55 feet below your starting point. Not that complex.

Re: Math question.

Weird... My teacher said that the starting point was the lowest number, so I assumed that negatives were impossible.

How old are you? They tell you things like that earlier on and then in later years they go into it in-depth. It might be the case that they don't want you confused.

I could be wrong, however.

Re: Math question.

-55 - 620
-55 + -620

I did this today in class, and I'm in fifth.

Or fifty-five feet below sea level.
Oh, and if you want to solve k/3 = 36, you'd have to cancel out the /3 by multiplying it. You have to do that to both sides, though.

So: k/3 = 36
      *3     *3
------------------------
     k = 108

Re: Math question.

I'm in fifth grade, and it's kinda' simple:
.620
+ 55
______
675(The answer would be -675 or 675 depending on how the question is written)
OR:
...55-
-.620-
______
620- or -620

Re: Math question.

careful because / means divided by, the answer is simply 675

Re: Math question.

Tell me, do you live in California?
I have seen those problems somewhere before.

There is -55 feet. How about below sea level?

You're in seventh grade(or sixth).  tongue

k / 3 = 36
k = 36 * 3
k = 108

Re: Math question.

I see you added another question. I learned the method possibly just a few weeks ago. Wait no. That was for addition + subtraction....Heh. Well this is simple anyway, since it's not something like: k+2k-4=36/2(random numbers, no real equation/answer).
---
Well I can't help. Maybe guess reasonable numbers, until you keep narrowing it down?

And your in 6th?

I was just pointing out how much random debate was going on between people older than me, when the problems that simple.

Just multiply both sides by 3:

K = 36*3 = 108

Oh, and if you want to solve k/3 = 36, you'd have to cancel out the /3 by multiplying it. You have to do that to both sides, though.

So: k/3 = 36
      *3     *3

Inverse Operations, learnt that in 5th grade.

You just gotta know your negative and positive formulas for this type of question.(I believe); n+p=p and etc. Thats how I get 90s and stuff, I just listen to the formula and the operations and tone out the teacher. (why? She teaches PRE-algebra to these kids and I'm G/T.)
