Hi,
I have a G4 eMac with a firewire iSight running 10.5 and an Atom Windows XP SP3 netbook. In both with the latest version of scratch we are unable to use the web cam. on the eMac the image is simply black (iChat works fine) and on the netbook the Window comes-up but then a message dialog shows-up stating that the VM has crashed. I am not running as admin in either case, in Windows the dialog states that a stack trace has been generated but the dump file is not there (likely since not running as admin).
Any help would be very much appreciated.

On Windows, try right clicking the app and click "Run as administrator"

It's probably as you thought, the fact that you are not an admin. Try getting permission, from the administrator of the computer.

I have now used the "run as" to run it as administrator on the XP netbook, it crashes but I get the crash.dmp file. I have pasted it's contents below. Maybe the stack dump is illuminating to a dev?

does it work good outside scratch? if so, start up scratch, then turn on ur webcam. once u know it works, turn it off and press the "camera" button on scratch.

That certainly is a very weird problem. Are any other programs accessing the webcam at the same time? I've seen that causes problems in other programs too.
Otherwise I have no idea how to help you so - you will have to wait for a Scratch Team member to pass by.
