If you can wait a while, we'll try to get it into BYOB for you, next version or next next.

Creation of hat blocks?

I meant that specific hat block, but now that I think we understand what the semantics should be, I'm pretty sure we'll just put in the generic hat block (with a hexagonal Boolean slot) next time.

It uses every uppercase and lowercase letter.

If it uses every letter, why not have it use numbers (or other characters)? (Of course, I'm not familiar with Squeak, so this may not be possible.)

No, sadly, this trip is burning free miles.  Mostly I get them by using my United credit card.  smile

but otoh we're hoping that there won't have to be a BYOB 4 because the Scratch Team will adopt the idea of first class data.

This is probably a pure "wishfull thinking" !

Anyway after further investigation I've noticed that the recursion issue existing some weeks ago is now fixed. ( you have been walking at such a fast pace that it is not easy to follow you.

Put all together BYOP - you have achieved - at least - a kind of NewLogo by its extraordinary combination of Scratch +Logo+1st class ( Are you also a 1st class air-traveler ?)

It does. Try putting in "9" or "." (without the quotes).

The funniest thing about this quote is that by the time you realize it doesn't say anything of importance, it's too late to stop reading it.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Hi, gang.

Various people, mainly teachers but not all, are objecting to the name BYOB because, you know, booze, children, can't do that.  (Also, the pun only works for English speakers.)

We were thinking about "Alonzo" as the name of the language.  It has the advantage of being different from everything else, but only a few well-informed people will understand the reason for the name.

What do you think?  Should we change it at all?  (It's tempting to say "those people have no sense of humor; ignore them" but that might keep BYOB out of schools.)  If so, should it be Alonzo?  Or something more globally meaningful, like say "Blocks++"?  (Just kidding, nXIII.)  One friend of mine said it should have "Pro" in the name but we both hate that idea.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

I personally like BYOB a lot, but I do understand other people's reasoning, so I'm willing to not have that. For Alonzo, that's already the name of the new gobo, right? And it doesn't sound that great to me - so if we have to, it's ok, but I personally don't like it. But I like the blocks++ idea!  smile

.

You are the boss, up to you to decide. Personally I think that the pronunciation of "boze" is far from "byob", except for twisted and narrow-minded person soaked with politically correction.

Beware of Alonzo. Alonzo is supposed to be a person. Well , Is this person a man or a woman ? A man ? Why not a woman ? A  black or white person ? An hispanic ? Why an hispanic ? Are you promoting the hispanic community against other communities ? etc, etc

After all "boss" is not so far from "boze". Do we have to prohibit the word "boss".

Byob++ seems more elaborate that a pure acronym like byob.
I vote for byob++ with the motto "with byob++ you get more )

The problem isn't pronouncing the acronym.  It's that long before there was BYOB-the-software, the acronym "BYOB" stood for "Bring your own booze" or "bring your own bottle" or "bring your own beer."  That's why Jens picked it -- it was a pun!

But back when Jens picked the name, BYOB was just a little proof-of-concept demonstration, not a major effort to take over the world.  smile

Yeah, exactly, that was a joke.

I'd suggest "First Class" except that that's the name of an email client system.  smile   Maybe we could get away with "First"?

Ummm.... hmmm.... no.
I'd say we should name it something like 'Objective Scratch'.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

If we called it BYOBlocks, would that solve the problem?  wink  It can't be called "Blocks++" because that would imply that there is actually an increment operator in BYOB. Maybe "Change Blocks By 1" would be a better fit.  tongue  We could abbreviate it "CBB1".
Maybe we could call it Snap or something? It's simple at least.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Yeah I can see the reason why you might want to change the name. I've had trouble communicating the name when telling other people about BYOB.

"So there is this new program called BYOB-"
"What?!"
"It's Build Your Own Blocks."
"Oh."

First Snap instead of First Class?

Ooh! That's a good idea!  smile

Or maybe it could be Second Snap, because Scratch is like the "first step", and BYOB is the second - it's more advanced.  smile
