Should kurt allow float position values for sprites, watchers, etc?

Yes for sprites, and it doesn't really matter for watchers. (Sprites can turn 30deg and move 10 steps, and then they're at (sqrt(3)*5, 5) and if saving doesn't preserve that, doing that 11 more times wouldn't put them back where they started)

Do Snap!/Scratch support float values when opening a project?

I think Scratch does; I'm sure I've seen that somewhere.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Hey, I just realized that when we move to Scratch 2.0, they'll archive this thread. Instead of making a new thread, do you want to pester the ST to make an entire category for Snap! which n moderates and bharvey and Jens manage? It would be nice to split up our discussions into threads (Kurt, Snap! features, CS discussion, politics?), and we could have stickies to help disoriented newbies.

I suppose one problem would be that we would have to look at lots of different threads every day, which is pretty annoying. But there could be a "main" thread where everyone posts updates or general discussion (like getting grounded  wink ).

Thoughts? I can convince Sci to talk to the ST.

An entire sub-forum-thingy would be neat! Though:

That'd be super great, but somehow I think the Scratch team will view agreeing as preferential treatment. :\ Let's go for it though.  big_smile

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

@shadow:  Oh, whew, I was trying to imagine you knocking over mailboxes or shoplifting or something.  A week for trying to learn after bedtime, that's harsh.

@hm:  Really we should have our own forum on our own site; that would certainly be better than trying to convince the ST about the importance of a thread about getting grounded (or teasing nXIII).  I don't think the ST would refuse on the basis of favoritism; their objection would be confusing people about whether Snap! is or isn't Scratch.

@blob: You'd better!  We're depending on you...

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

I'm pretty sure I would have quit programming if I hadn't found BYOB. So now that I'm majoring in computer science I feel very indebted to BYOB/Snap!  smile  Which leads me to ask how I might make a contribution to Snap!'s development should I find the time.

Well, we have around 10 days to convince them before Scratch 2.0.

Should I talk to Lightnin/Paddle/Sci?  smile

Probably best to talk to Lightnin or Paddle, I'm unsure if Scimonster is apart of the ST...

Wow, thanks! I guess since everybody is crazy about Github nowadays you could watch the Snap! repo there, and find / fix bugs.

Wow.  I think this is the greatest compliment we ever had!  Thanks!

I think you should settle the time question first.  If your time comes in tiny pieces then, as Jens says, find a bug and fix it.  If you turn out to have a big chunk of time (if, for example, you can get a professor to sponsor independent-study unit for it), then you could pick one of the bigger missing pieces, such as the uniform program-level treatment of colors as data, or the harder bugs, such as the correct display of continuations of reporters.

Well, I guess I'm thinking of it, maybe wrongly, as the 21st century equivalent of reading under your blanket with a flashlight.  The book under the blanket doesn't have to be Wittgenstein for that to count as a pretty benign activity.

Aww, you mean they're going to beat us to the official release after all?

Should I talk to Lightnin/Paddle/Sci?  smile

Umm.  My own opinion is that the current number of topic threads (two) is just right, one for Our Gang and one for The Public.  As it is, every so often some citizen starts a new one in Advanced Topics and it takes me three months to notice.  And the detailed discussion of specific implementation features under development works best in email, at least in its early stages.  And we don't want to get Shadow in trouble again.  smile

Having said that, if you want to ask, and if y'all think it's a good idea, I wouldn't stop you.  Just make sure the ST isn't confused about the source of the request -- I think Jens and I have a certain amount of ST capital and I want to spend it on focused topics (such as first class lists in Scratch, the next thing we're nagging them about now that we have custom blocks!).

Sorry, I changed my account, again. I thought BornAgainAtheist was a kind of irrelevant and possibly distracting name. But now my name matches my Github name  smile  In case anyone cares (and forgot) it was 14God->BornAgainAtheist->KodyJKing.

PS if you see 2 posts of a similar nature, its because I was wrong and the original post did go through
