Huh?  You seem to be quite self-starting to me!

As to him, though, I have two answers:

1.  Find a really awesome project on the Scratch site that you think is within his reach, and let him play with it, and then walk him through the code, and modify it together.

2.  Ultimately, it's not your job to get his attention.  You can help him learn, but if he isn't interested, then maybe this isn't the thing for him right now.  Not everyone has to program computers.

He is genuinely interested but he sometimes gives up or looses focus, I really like the idea of using someones existing scratch projects and remixing it. He's interested in making a fighting game and there are plenty out there to remix. I learned sine/cosine from this: http://scratch.mit.edu/projects/keroro645/492026 so I understand how useful other peoples projects are.

Ah, well, he's 10.  That happens.  Just be patient.  (Which it sounds like you already are, but I mean, don't think you have to come up with a solution to a kid's limited attention span!)

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

BYOB 3.1.1 downloaded.
It's a big file, and that took several minutes.
Now I have to get a password to extract it...

At least 360 seconds have to pass between posts. Please wait a little while and try posting again.
Being new is annoying. ^^

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Okay, so I'm looking through the tools sprite, and found at the bottom the ((attribute) OF (sprite)) block. I tried sticking the X POSITION into it, but it only reported X POSITION.

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

I just "lambadified" a block, and when I took it out of the THE BLOCK block, the insert was %s!  yikes

EDIT: Just want to point this out, but in the acronym script, the comment says "taks" instead of "tasks"  tongue

Hey bharvey,
The BYOB4 dev list has been quiet for like a month! Is everyone on vacation?

Are you on vacation?

I'm all...alone.  yikes

Re: BYOB 3 - Discussion Thread

Hi fullmoon, I just got back from my vacation and am catching up on e-mails. Next week Brian will come visit me  smile  and after that you can expect the BYOB4 mailing list to get busy again. BTW the main reason the mailing list currently isn't all that active is that I'm neglecting it over all the stuff I'm hacking  wink

I was on vacation but am currently in the hospital in Bergen, Norway recovering from the emergency removal of a tumor that was completely blocking the intestine.  Still in ICU a week later, partly because still no bowel flow.

I'm afraid this will slow down my activities for a while!  sad

There is a > > >very small< < < mailing list consisting of Jens, me, four Berkeley students, fullmoon, and nXIII.  (The latter two are working on writing primitives; the Berkeley students on the core evaluator, and of course Jens on the GUI and everything else because he's twice as fast as the rest of us put together.  I am mainly trying to ride herd on the Berkeley students.  smile  )

nXIII is still active? I've been trying to contact him for AGES.
