A glimpse of Scratch in Halloween 2008

At around Halloween 2008, I got Top Downloaded!  big_smile  I saved a picture.

Today I took a look at it, and - well, take a look for yourself (I'll point out the features)...

http://img59.imageshack.us/img59/1232/126topdownloaded.png

Website differences:
    • "What the Community is Loving" was called "Top Loved Lately"
    • "What the Community is Viewing" was called "Top Viewed Lately"
    • There's "Surprise Projects"
    • There's "Top Downloaded"
    • People could be on the front page in more than one spot at a time

But you know what? People always talk about how Scratch isn't as good now ( hmm )... let's take a look:
    • There were good projects on Top Loved - those projects did deserve the love-its...
    • Top Viewed actually had good stuff - now they almost never... Different projects got front-paged - they deserved it more than the ones nowadays.
    • The celebrities (ie. bosox397) made good projects - better ones than nowadays... they got famous because they deserved it.

One thing that already changed - remix chains were already dominating.  lol  You can see a remix chain there...

hmm

Hmm... I see bosox397 on the front page in three places.  yikes

I fall: It's a tragedy. You fall: It's comedy.
Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

Yup, that's because whenever he would share a project because another one of his projects was on the frontpage, the newly shared one would get tons of views.

I remember right before he left, he told me his strategies on how he got so many views, but I never used it myself.

yikes  What is it? Oh, probably the stuff you see in the Show and Tell stickies...

...but what are the strategies?  smile

I remember that he said not to tell anyone, but I can't be sure because he also told me to delete the comment.

Spam on everybody's project so much that Scratch had to make a filter to stop him even though only 1/100 people clicked on the links he would still automatically get front paged.

I'm taking a break from Scratch until 2.0 comes out. Any messages sent between then and now probably won't be read - sorry.

Re: A glimpse of Scratch in Halloween 2008

Since I was around to say congratulations- Congratulations!  big_smile  I don't think all of the changes have been for the worse. I mean, its good that a user can only have one project on the front page at a time (in my opinion). I do wish Surprise projects would come back though...

Re: A glimpse of Scratch in Halloween 2008

I disagree, the front page still has lots of good stuff. Pokemaster works really hard on her drawings, and I know because she was one of my first friends when I joined Scratch. I feel kind of bad, because people go on her projects and post,"SCRATCH ISN'T FOR ART. GET A DEVIANTART THIS DOESN'T BELONG."  hmm
