How to solve the prejudice against scratch

I've been hearing a lot of "Scratch isn't cool" & et cetera recently. I can see how to fix people like that. The changes will be listed in order of  importance:
1. Make scratch less of a "Kids" thing:
I am not suggesting to allow illicit material or swears. I think it might be a good addition to the sight to add "Age" factions, different sections of the sight for different age groups. This way it would be less easy to make fun of somebody for being younger or feel like somebody's "stupid" because they might "know less".
2. Expand the Territory:
Right now, only regular Mac, Windows & Linux can run scratch. There should maybe be a netbook version, Palm OS, even maybe some sort of scratch for x box!
3. Less harsh restrictions:
I am not saying to disintegrate the rules. But I was looking on some forums recently, and many are upset because they are banned. Maybe instead of IP ban, lock the Log In key unless somebody's hacking or something.
4. Close account available:
This would not solve the "I Quit" problem, but it'd cool it a little. Not that less people would quit, but we'd just see less "I Quit" projects & posts.
5: Ads:
One reason scratch isn't popular is because it doesn't advertise.

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

I think this would be more suited for the Suggestions thread.  big_smile
Nice ideas btw.
However, the close account button was introduced a year ago but Scratchers complained about it because of hackers so now if you want to close your account then you should send an email to the Scratch Team  big_smile

Maybe a "Request Account Close" button.

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

1. Age groups... How will that help? People can lie about their age... Grouping by age is  a bad idea (not just because this is the internet).

3. Many are upset that they are banned. ISN'T THAT THE POINT OF BEING BANNED?

4. The hacker could request that.

5. Why would scratch advertise? It doesn't make any money, so the scratch team would lose money.

And finally, this should be in suggestions.

The "Contact us" button at the bottom of the website is for that.

1. Scratch is supposed to be for everyone, isn't it? Putting some parts off limits for some users isn't very nice...
2. You could maybe play a project on an Xbox (I don't know, I don't have one) somehow, but how would you program in it? It doesn't make sense...
3. IP bans are chosen when the person uses multiple accounts when one gets banned - it stops them.

That's a side effect.  tongue  Users are banned to stop them from continuing their actions, and the banning will cause them to calm down a little...
4. That was available a few months ago, but was shouted down because users got very upset; their accounts could be removed if someone accessed them with bad intentions.
5. It gets in magazines...  hmm

Hmph enjoy your fall - I get a lovely spring... without pans of new leaves.

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

I thinl instead of IP banning we could lock both register & login . . . I don't mean "Ban the account" but "You click log in button, it says disabled". That would be a lot more fair.

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

I think that we should do something to make Scratch a little more for all ages.  I think it could work for all ages, but only younger kids use it.  I'm 14, and probably a lot of Scratchers on here are younger than that.  Well, there's exceptions, but you know.

Actually, an IP block is usually the last resort. Most blocks are blocks on individual accounts. IP blocks are typically placed when multiple troublesome accounts come from a certain IP address. You can read more about account blocks here.

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

Yes, but I'm saying that it's just annoying. I was IP banned from Pokemon Crater & Club Penguin so I know what it's like. I can understand why you would, but why not logout the user and deactivate the log in key?

Re: How to solve the prejudice against scratch

What "prejudice against Scratch"? I don't think there's anything broken that needs to be fixed ( at least not in this department).

To my understanding, no method of blocking (IP block or regular block) exists that will simply force the user to log out and then deactivate the user's ability to log in. A blocked user will either be met with a message saying they are blocked upon logging in (in cases of a regular block) or will automatically be blocked from viewing the website entirely (in severe cases where an IP block is used).
