How Pokémon games are created!

They pick two colors, that are totally random (or gems).

Then they name a professor by the name of a tree.

Gold and Silver, you had to get the Rainbow and Silver Wing.
Ruby and Sapphire, the evil team leaders stole the Red and Blue orbs to control Kyogre and Groudon.
Diamond and Pearl, refers to the diamond on Dialga's chest which helps it control time, and the Pearl on Palkia's shoulder which helps it alter space.

Black and White.... Not much info was revealed about them yet, so I can't be sure.

Onyx is the only obvious choice. I bet they're saving up the name for a revolutinary Pokemon game.
