I didn't mean you had no chance! I meant that just because you put forth saying, "Ill be a moderator!" doesn't necessarily mean you will be one. You might be a great moderator, for all I know.

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

O Andres looked at the letter i typed Jman, Rockie, and Ffboi999. He said that this " hey thanks for creating this project. I am honored! We are still trying to figure out what is the best way to moderate galleries. In some ways you can already be a moderator of your own gallery so it's important to avoid duplication of efforts. I will check the discussion on the forums and let you know what the Scratch Team decides. I am a grad student here at MIT and I might be a bit busy in the upcoming weeks but other members of the Scratch Team might be able to help. Thanks a lot for your interest. You are doing a great job and we are really happy about it." I copied the exact words. So lets not bother them since they are busy so when they get around to it they do!

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

I haven't completely read all of the posts, but the creators of forums could get an option to set <member> as a moderator who can check their gallery along with them, reviewing,  accepting, or rejectig applications of projects to be in the gallery( this could be a new option to apply, or ppl could post a link in the comments)

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

It's really interesting that this topic was brought up.
Here are some of my more personal feelings about Scratch:

I do not feel as though Scratch has "loosen its touch", but it needs new, fresh ideas! Sometimes it's more rather the Scratcher who needs new ideas though; I have resumed Scratch for a while though because of lack of ideas. I usually listen to music or just create, I get many ideas that way. Sometimes even what i'm learning in school, (my proportion solver was made after working with proportions, for helping others and myself), gives me fresh starts. Although, the Scratch Team must have times while being stuck with ideas. This is what the forums our for (help and ideas). I find the forums as a EXCELLENT way to share ideas, and to the Scratch Team to consider ideas. Thank you for listening, and Scratch on!

We're actually having a meeting tomorrow. But just to warn you, things run a bit slow here because there are multiple people with different opinions and limited time. But be sure that we're thinking about these things.

Thanks a lot everyone for your great feedback.

Regardless of whether the moderated galleries idea gets green-lighted or not, I do feel that the meta-gallery concept (to use kevin_karplus' term) would be a valuable tool in organizing the project pool.

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

Scratch will always be adding new things and it gets better and better every time! I wouldn't say its "losing its touch." Besides, most people like to make their own Sprites. But, its your opinion, and I want to respect it. But in MY opinion, Scratch is a great place for learning and having fun, and its a great excuse for being in the computer since you learn some programming. The best part is, you imagination can EXPLODE in this website!

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

I agree with Archmage, I think it should be easier to find things. The customized pages wouldn't make a difference. If anything, I think they would distract people from the actual Project.

I Think Paddle2See's Moderated Gallerys Idea Is Excellent! To Me, Scratch Never Gets Old! Scratch Is Forever Changing And It Is Always Getting Better.

Honestly i am going to have to disagree with you Jman! I don't think scratch is boring i have been hooked on this site for 6 months and for those 6 months i have been on EVERY day! if there was a hour count on how many hours i have been on the site total i think it would be well over 500 hours!  When i get home i go right to the computer and go here! I LOVE THIS SITE SO MUCH ITS PART OF MY DAILY LIFE ROUTINE. might sound dorky and stupid but thats your opinion. I think this is a brilliant way to make things about how you feel, what you like, and express those in projects! and i think i am getting better at it! I love to see how others work and i like to discuss about the site, i talk to my parents about it and i show them the work of other scratchers and my work! My dad said to me  " This Site Has Progressed a lot in the work effort and creativity!" That made me happy! So that is my opinion i definitely  don't think Scratch is boring!

Lol yeah I go on the scratch website every day. Though (suprisingly) in scratch I have a daily routine, look for any projects from my friends that are new, then look at the forums and stuff and help people, then I start working on projects (sometimes)

Re: Scratch Losing it's "touch"?

Paddle2See wrote:

Okay, here's a thought that might work.  First, could you make Galleries heirarchial?  Make it so that Galleries can hold links to other galleries?  If you did that, you could build a Gallery index that would lead to interest-specific galleries.  With this approach, you could provide a link from the Front Page to the Gallery Index which would lead to specific galleries maintained by responsible individuals (not the Scratch team).  So, the way I'm imagining this, a Scratcher would see a link to the Examples Gallery from the Front Page.  From there, the top level Gallery might be something similar to the directory structure they see when they open a project in Scratch:  Games, Animations, Stories, Music and Dance, Art, Simulations, Educational, etc.  Clicking on Games, leads to another directory structure:  Dress-up  Games, Shooting Games, Platform Games and so on.  Below this level, you might have actual projects or a mixture of projects and links to even more specific galleries.

I personally think this is a great Idea.
